If someone hasn't seen Star Wars, it's not because it's an "old movie"; there are certain exceptions to the general "fear of 'old movies' " that many people have; for instance, James Bond and Star Wars. Actually, the might be just about it; I would say Hitchcock films but many people are afraid of black-and-white. Anyways, if someone hasn't Star Wars, it's not because it's an "old movie"; it's because they are genuinely uninterested in films like that, by and large. Which is fair enough; no one has to like everything. That being said, I would say A New Hope is the one film in the franchise that achieves greatness and would likely be enjoyed by anyone, even a non-sci-fi/fantasy/genre fan. Also, Rogue One looks to be easily the best since A New Hope, if not the best period, and it's story as I understand it is a direct tie to A New Hope so storyline-wise nothing is missing. |

What the heck is wrong with some of you guys? Nobody just being introduced into Star Wars now is going to care about your darn de-specialized editions. You really have to bring it up for everything? Jeez louise. They won't care! They will never care, even if you described the issues to them! They would probably even think you were crazy for talking about it!
Also, if it's a kid, Episode 1 is a great introduction. Episode I came out in theaters when I was young, and my friends and I all loved it. I'd seen episode IV and V already, and I believe at the time I liked Episode I almost as much as IV. Definitely Episodes IV and V first though. Last edited by doctor_who; 05-09-2016 at 07:51 PM. |

But as responsible adults, we should not inflict the horror of episode 1 on our kids. It's almost child abuse.

Apparently if you think the prequels are bad movies you're a "miserable hater" within your group of "gibbering internet hoards." Yup, don't those damn guys sure are spiteful and full of hate!
![]() I think MOST people would agree you should start off with the original classic Star Wars-- and YES, Despecialized if you have it, as I think there is a lot of merit in somebody seeing the original version before seeing a later enhanced redo version, regardless of your opinion of it. If you have the prequels and you feel like you can sit through them, then by all means show them and see what they think. If you don't own them or don't want to watch them, I'm sure whoever it is can seek them out on their own if they're curious. |

ignore ALL the haters and just watch them in the numerical order. Despite what some fans with baggage will tell you, that is the order Lucas intends people to watch them as he intentionally designed the prequels to fit in that way.
Even if they already know Vader is Luke's dad it won't make a difference one way or the other the movies are all great all seven of them. And as has been mentioned already, they are not going to care about the changes made because unless you point them out they won't even know and if you don't ruin it for them by pointing them out they might not even care. In fact they won't care anyways because they weren't alive in '77 to be traumatized by the owner of his own imagination using his own money to improve a product me made by pouring his own blood, sweat, and years into because they imagined in their own minds he was a fairy godmother sent from heaven to bestow upon them magical pleasures or whatever nonsense is going on in their senile minds. |

ALWAYS 4-6, then 1-3 for new viewers. The films were made in that order for a reason, and not just due to technical limitations.
![]() Also, ignore all the salty people who hate on the prequels. The hypertension is strong with them. ![]() |

Whatever Lucas intends, Star Wars '77 absolutely did not anticipate the overall plot arc of the series, and I think it's best introduced without the clumsy retconning of the subsequent films.

Says you. Even if you read the novelization that was release PRIOR to the film you will see hints of the stuff that he did in the prequels so retconning is a fan made up term to describe what Lucas intended to do all along. He changed course as things went along and as it got out of control due to scope since it was a massive undertaking things became harder to reconcile but whatever you are entitled to your opinion and hell you can flat out twist facts and lie too it that is what you want to do but Lucas knew before he released the film that if it failed he would release the rest of the story in books, which he did for the longest time before giving up because of ungrateful "fans" who somehow believe their entitled delusions make them right to criticize the man who made the thing they idolize.
