This is one of my favorite 4K HDR. It looks damn good with the trees and how the light shines through. Even the detail with the faces and the cuts on them. I really want to see more War Films come out in 4K now.

I'm really curious to check this out! I really enjoyed the film, but I'm not sure how much replay value I'd get. I haven't re-watched it since I bought it. It's the new format curse of buying movies cause they look nice!

No, not at all. He's tripping. He seems to think a 2K upconvert can't look better on UHD than Blu. False, false, false.

Thats not at all why he returned it.

He returned it because he believes the upscale process for this movie produced a softer image than what the 1080p blu ray offers. There are plenty of great 2k upscales out there.

Indeed, it's a very common cost-saving measure across Euro/Aus releases but it's not something I've ever seen on a UK/US disc. Even when Universal have used the exact same BD for UK and US they've never shared the disc art like that to my knowledge. And it's not like they've put the French, German, Italian (or whatever) ratings on there too, just the UK/EIRE ones.

[edit] Though it appears as if there's not a lot of alternate language options, it's very much a North American disc so I guess they figured "hey, those Limeys talk English too, might as well put their ratings on there and save a few bucks". Makes sense given how these UHDs won't be replicated in huge amounts right now.

That's a pretty generous read of what he wrote.

He's not lying about it, these pictures are completely useless with the topic at hand. These pictures explain how native 4k compares to 1080p, not a botched upscale job vs 1080p.

Spectracal is releasing a very large report in October regarding the current state of 4k HDR. And I can assure you it is going to call out these crappy 2k upscales. (There are good upscales and bad ones).

Spectracal compared 4k hdr vs 1080p blu ray of man of steel earlier this year, and Stacy Spears was not happy to find details and textures missing on the vudu version. Missing texture is common at some point on 2k upscale discs. You don't know it unless you know what to look for. But spectracal had 2 identical tvs side by side when they compared.

I hope spectracal did a thorough investigation of every 2k upscale released.

Come on dude, streaming versions are what they are: pre-managed and encoded to fit a very small bitrate, I don't place any importance in the differences that Stacey found in that case because streaming is its own thing. Comparing the UHD Blu to the HD Blu would be much more illuminating.

But ahead of their report I'll stick my neck on the line and state that UHD Blu-rays like San Andreas, Pi and Lego have more measurable, resolvable spatial detail than the 1080p Blu, having directly compared them both running simultaneously on the same TV.

Maybe I am in the minority I thought Lone Survivor was one of the best UHD I have seen. Oblivion could of been better but I didn't think it was bad looking still thought it was better then the bluray. Maybe it is different based on each persons TV and Settings.

Pretty sure this statement is the current consensus.
