I think it looks alright so far. Obviously it's not as lavish as the failed earlier shoot with Depp, but Adam Driver seems really good, and Pryce can act in his sleep.

I won't judge any Gilliam film by its trailer - fallen into that trap before. It's one thing to cobble together many moments but it's the sustained tone of the thing that matters. In any case, practically every Gilliam film has a split response by critics ('Brazil' is a notable exception), so even reviews are nothing to go on. I expect this to be no better and no worse than anything else he's done - main point is I'd rather see a lousy Gilliam film than any of the other usual fluff at the multiplexes.

Terry Gilliam had a stroke, and may not be able to make it to Cannes (if the film is even shown there).

Wishing him the best.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that the stroke was caused by all this disgraceful hoopla.

@TerryGilliam: After days of rest and prayers to the gods I am restored and well again. So is The Man Who Killed Don Quixote! We are legally victorious! We will go to the ball, dressed as the closing film at Festival de Cannes! May 19. Thanks for all your support. #QuixoteVive

What's messed up is I immediately thought of the "animator suffers fatal heart attack" joke from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Best wishes on his recovery.

If Amazon's gonna chicken out of releasing this, I'm sure there are other studios that will do the job.

On the other hand...if even Amazon doesn't want to release this, then they must think it's a mess, something the first reviews also argue:

Any chance of Lost in La Mancha ever showing up on Blu-ray...?

There will be a second feature-length documentary produced about the making of this one, already confirmed.

Gilliam is a legend but his output has been brutal for decades now so I can't get that excited for this outside of general curiosity.

Think it was shot on SD video, so wouldn't get much improvement over DVD.

Shitty reviews are hardly surprising. The trailer, heck, even a poster looked terrible.

No, I mean it as in...people like Amazon and Netflix of course now often give further opportunities of distribution to 'unusual' or unconventional productions, and/or are willing to fund things certain other major networks/corporations wouldn't... So I'm surprised that yes, even they are dropping this.

Actually it was shot in mini DV, So it would look about as good as 28 days later!
I'm actually in the DVD. not the main feature, but one of the Doc's which was a q&A with Gilliam and Elvis Mitchell after the LA screening of the movie at LACMA.
such a cool enjoyable evening!!
