In all likelihood this is not going to be pretty unless they do a full stock.

Since Target started getting steelbook exclusives of the DC animated releases, I have never been to a Target in my area (of which there are 2) where they have more than 3 copies available. Of course, who knows how many copies are set aside by employees beforehand. Either way, I hope this means more of this release in store. It's just ridiculous that they make so few of them when there is such a strong demand for DC animated steelbooks

The problem is distribution. The steelbook shares the same DPCI as the standard case and there's no differentiation on paper as to how many of each type will show up at any given store or any given city. It's a crapshoot and it's terrible. And now that they don't have them available for shipping from Target.com makes it even worse. But half the time, they'd send the standard edition anyway because of the shared DPCI. They really do need to change that.

No. They tried that in the past with The Avengers and one of the Twilight films. It failed miserably.

Not only that, you'll have people preorder from a store expecting to pick up their preorder at a different store resulting in utter chaos over quantity set aside. I kid you not, I had people who preordered video games whilst on vacation in Florida and expected to be able to pick up their copy in Wisconsin.

Tim, please don't ask for titles before their release date. It is against the forum rules. I just don't want you to get in trouble in case you didn't know. Also when it does come in the event you can't get it we do have a few forums that you can use to ask.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=113170

And this one

https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=142

But again, you'll need to wait till the movie is released.

As an employee myself and the person in charge of putting out new releases, I can tell you as a rule there are none set aside for employees. I'm a huge fan of the DCU steels and usually post the pics here a week in advance, but nine times out of ten I have to pick them up off eBay. Employees are not allowed access to any new releases until 15 minutes after the store has been open to the public. Sure, nationally I'm sure there are employees that hide one for themselves but as a general rule they can not. I'm acquaintances with most of the collectors in the area and i expect them at 8 on the dot every release, and they're always there. As Mertz said, the problem is distribution. We usually get 4 max, and I am never able to get them, it sucks but that's the job.

I'm excited for this one. I agree with some people that have mentioned that this could have scalpers smelling blood in the water like sharks with this release; especially considering it is based off of one of the most famous Batman comic adaptations, it has the fans' favorite voice actors coming back to roles they retired from just to make this, and Warner Bros. gave the filmmakers the freedom to do the source material justice.

The thing that is frustrating to me about the last 3-4 DC Universe Animated Original Movie steelbooks at Target is that it is unpredictable when the stores will actually get these. The four stores where I live had zero copies of Gods and Monsters on the release day, but by the weekend they all got a few. I bought the last copy of Gods and Monsters on the weekend, but when I went to that store a few days ago they had 3 copies of that steelbook (one damaged though). Batman: Bad Blood and JL vs TT got copies randomly during the week after release day or some stores never got copies of the steelbook. It is one thing to know a store will have very limited quantities (2-3), because you know the have to make an effort to get to the store early to be the early bird that gets the worm. It is a whole other thing when we, the consumers, are subjected to the unknown to when the stores will get these, because we are left playing the Target DC steelbook slot machine game where we don't know when we show up to the store or call we will be a winner in finding a steelbook. Hopefully, Target has a decent amount of these (6-7) on release day, but I have a feeling we will be subjected to the usual game. I don't know if Target will recognize the demand for this will be bigger than the usual DC Animated Films.

Wonder if this will come with the Digital Graphic Novel like the rest or if there going to make it The Man who Laughs like the BB mini comic?

I'll go against what you said and fully admit that I always set aside a copy of a new release for myself before the store opened during my bulls-eye days. Usually it was a minty slip saved from the coffins or a TV season spared from the spider-wraps, but I would always time it so I could take my break at 8:15 on Tuesday to buy my movies. Most times, it was never necessary to snag a copy due to my low volume store, but I never wanted to risk missing out.

That stinks that you're not able to take full advantage of your team member discount and buy in-store. Resorting to eBay because of Target's stupid rule is beyond ridiculous. I'm not saying you're entitled, but if you are the one setting product out, you should at least be able to take your break right when the store opens to claim one. If there was one time that you could do this, go for it with this release.

I too quit collect these steel books, sold them all a few months ago. But this one is very cool. I will be at Target at open to see about acquiring a copy, at the very least I'll get a slipped copy. Excited for this one!

To the casual viewer, they just see Joker taking a picture, but once you read the story...
True, glad they are giving us this cover instead of the lame art they use on other releases.

This looks interesting. Have no idea of the story and all that but I've always liked the joker. I'll try to get this. This is probably going to be one of those hard to find steelbooks that sell out quick.

If you don't know the story, but like the Joker, you are in for a treat.

This story is quoted by many writers and directors to be one of the most inspirational Joker stories ever.

I think this is probably the best Joker story. Extremely disturbing though, so not for the faint of heart.

I would say this is for mature audiences only.
