I won't lie, I was hoping Criterion would be the one to put this out, since they've been making an effort to put out titles they had previously released on DVD and Laserdisc.

The important thing is that it IS getting a release, and as long as Scream do a quality job, I'm game.

Arrow released Shivers and Rabid in the UK. Both are region B locked, however the replacement disc that Arrow put out for Shivers (at least the initial pressing; I'm not sure about subsequent replacement discs) is region free.

I'd be down for Stay Tuned. That movie stuck with me as a kid.

For the bolded. Maybe? Who knows.

Pity the Criterion DVD is far too OOP.

Nightbreed is not owned by WB. It is owned by Morgan Creek. They licensed it to Scream. Since then Morgan Creek has taken their titles from WB and are licensing some out to Shout Factory. Bad Moon and The Crush are also MC titles Scream is releasing.

Nightbreed, Dead Ringers, Pacific Heights, Enemies A Love Story, Young Guns II and others were released by 20th Century Fox theatrically before MC moved to WB in the early 90's.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm actually kind of happy that Scream got it over Criterion. I'm not a fan of Criterion's Scanners and The Brood releases, so I'm curious to see what Scream will do with it. And hopefully Arrow can get it in the UK if Scream botches the job.

You forgot to mention Exorcist III, which is inevitable to receive a Scream Factory release.

Saying WB doesn't license when three other companies have released their films is rather disingenuous. Do they license often? No. Have they licensed before? Yes. Circumstances have nothing to do with it, because who knows, any WB film could fall under "special circumstances" for whatever reason.
Yes a deal is a deal but its not a traditional deal such as MGM, Fox or Sony. And yes special circumstances are the reasons Criterion gets WB titles. You dont know, but I do - and I know what the circumstances were, which I mentioned on my post.
They license only because of favors or in the case of Criterion unique circumstances, "we will remaster these titles for you and in exchange we want Cat People, McCabe and Mrs Miller.. etc They have a bunch of WB titles, which you will see in the weeks and months to come.. This could eventually lead WB to do more actual deals without favors involved !

I'd buy that in a heartbeat. The DVD (which was released WAY early in the format) still holds up surprisingly well though. Such a great and underrated movie.

thought for sure this would be a Criterion release but that's ok, as long as we're getting a release.

Not a movie to watch at random, you need to be in the right mood as this is one hell of a dark and depressing film... incredibly well made and effective though....

You mean listen to David Cronenbergs wishes? Cause Rabid from Arrow looks a lot like Criterion's releases of The Brood and Scanners.
While different looking it could still very well happen with Dead Ringers if he has his hand in it too, but chances are it would've looked good from any of the companies putting it out.
It IS from a different era of his career, so it will probably reflect that.

Rabid doesn't have that murky look to it, so I'm okay with it. Shivers looks even better to me, and Cronenberg approved that one. So I don't know what's going on with his involvement in these transfers.

Is this the same situation with CRASH or is that out and out Warner?

It's one of my most watched Cronenberg's because there is a lot of black comedy too!

Crash was a New Line Cinema title and not Morgan Creek so it's still with Warner Brothers. Right now it's part of their Warner Archive DVD line. Hope Warner Archive or Criterion will get around to a Blu-ray someday as it still hasn't gotten a Blu-ray release in any part of the world yet.

Still, good to see that another Cronenberg is getting a U.S. Blu-ray.

Its a bit brighter but it still has that low contrast and greenish tint to it.
Anyways, I still think this would look good coming from any of these labels, we're lucky that we seem to be at the stage where they're all bringing their A game to the table.
Scream has really been stepping up to the plate this year so I have a lot of confidence that this will carry on with their recent efforts.

Shame. It's the same situation holding up John Waters on blu ray.

I actually thought the contrast looked a bit too high, but yeah, some sickly green sneaking in. I wish Scream would focus a bit more on the film than the packaging and extras, but they've done a great job on some of their releases, so I'm optimistic.

Well they've been doing some damn good stuff with the materials they've worked on themselves for their collectors editions.
TCM 2 looks great, Army Of Darkness is as good as it can be (with their restrictions of course), and Return Of the Living Dead is looking like its going to be another home run from the first couple reviews.

As long as they have access to the materials I have faith that we will see some more really good releases from them this year. Really hoping that they'll be doing American Werewolf as I've been holding out on a decent version of that one as well.
