And The Shallows made nearly $3M more, brining the total to almost $30M. Rock on, Blake. Rock on.

BTW, I just noticed for the first time that boxofficemojo.com categorizes it as "Horror." I think that's weird. Does it really seem like a horror movie to anyone else?

I would put it more in the survival/action genre, but it does use some horror tropes that might tip it in that direction.

Yeah, I was thinking survival/thriller something like that.

It's a suspense film, not a horror film, but I see it called a horror film pretty much everywhere.

Great for Tarzan. Will probably have decent legs too with great WOM from audiences. Plus there's not really a big hit to it until Star Trek. I mean Secret Life of Pets will be big but it can survive that. If they could get the budget down they could make a sequel. I probably wouldn't open it during the summer though. I'd release it during a more dead time of year.

Great for The Purge too. Should end up the highest grosser of the series so far. Even though the other two received October releases on DVD/Blu-ray I'm assuming they'll wait until election Tuesday to release this one. I can't see them missing that opportunity. Maybe they should give it a wide theatrical re-release the beginning of November and hold off a little longer for the DVD.

Another terrific weekend for Dory. Too bad there wasn't a bigger space between it and Pets.

Solid for Swiss Army Man. Not a total failure. Might end up with a total similar to The Lobster. A24 really knows how to get their unique films out there. I give them credit. They should have released The Neon Demon. Might have ended up over 3 Million at least, similar to Green Room.

That's a decent start for Tarzan considering many thought it would struggle to get to $30m for the 4-day holiday. Looks like it'll probably make ~$45m for the 4-days.

The thought of Blake Lively getting hurt by a shark was horrifying.

Warcraft is going to drop close to 80%. It won't double its opening weekend.

Solid start for Tarzan, it would be seen as a bigger success if WB hadn't sunk $180 MILLION into it. This seems like it should have been pumped out in the neighborhood of $120-$140M even with the effects work in the film.

Hopefully it does well overseas and can carry in the domestic market since it was a really enjoyable film.

I'm actually surprised that Tarzan came so close to Dory.

It's nice to see The Shallows at $35M. Helping to reinvigorate my faltering faith in humanity.

Dory is now the #2 box office movie of 2016 and will top Cap sometime next week.

So how far did Neon Demon drop? Lost most of its screens, including all of them here. Guess I'll watch it at home in September...

Surprisingly, it's still showing at three AMC theaters here. I'm sort of shocked by that.

What was the last live action Tarzan film released by a major studio? That piece of crap with Caspar Van Dien and Jane March?

I'm surprised they spent that much on a new Tarzan film.

Really pleased to see Tarzan surpass expectations, even if it's not a great opening when it's budget is taken into account.
