Quite a few people share the same sentiment of BvS, so if it was anywhere near as good as u claim, it would be nearly unanimous like people's feelings towards the revenant, Sicario and Smurfs 2. I also haven't seen a single person say the imax scenes in ST2 WEREN'T amazing.
I have around 20+ titles so far (I'm trying, and failing, to be picky in what I buy in 4K given the current situation of 2K upscales). Unfortunately, BvS brings out the grain haters in full force, and I can't tell if you just can't adjust to Snyder's chosen photography style by what you've said so far. Revenant, by comparison, is very clean looking and it makes perfect sense why people gravitate towards it (the same can be said of Smurfs 2, obviously 4K CGI will look amazing). I actually had to explain film grain to my co-workers when I had BvS on display on a UN55KS9500 at work a few days ago, so I expect that's the reason why we aren't seeing unanimous love for BvS. We had similar problems with 300 and Watchmen.

Like I said in my last reply, I'll be very happy when we can start doing 4K vs 1080 screenshot comparisons because then it will be far less subjective.

Back to Star Trek Into Darkness: the IMAX sequences look very nice, don't get me wrong. But they're clearly not bringing 4K detail. I think the switching aspect ratios enhances the scenes, and it's always nice when you have content that fills the entire screen, but for me it's the HDR that's the biggest improvement for the two Star Trek films.

How is it as a movie? PQ similar to Deadpool?

Movie wise I'd give it a 2 1/2 to 3 stars out of 5. Not great, but not bad either. Deadpool may show a little more detail, but Hitman is clean and the colors pop just as much as Deadpool.

This. Am a screencap dork and have been capturing calibrated DVD & BD direct comparisons for nearly a decade. Can't wait to be able to start doing it for UHD BDs.

Also agree with you regarding BvS. They did a fine job upscaling it (not ruining it with dnr or artificial sharpening) keeping the grain nicely intact, bd100 of data breathing room for mostly fine looking compression which is something star trek could've greatly benefited from, and the excellent hdr grade on its own is almost worth the price of admission. I'd currently put it somewhere in my top ten (out of nearly 40 UHDs viewed to date).

I thought the Revenant was the best film of 2015, IMO. I'd rank it higher than Fury Road and Inside Out.

I don't have any 4K equipment yet but I am thinking about upgrading, though I have not made up my mind yet. I do have the Star Trek Into Darkness regular blu and those Imax scenes looks so stunning that I keep telling myself how much better can this look? So my question for those who owns the 4K version: How much better it is? And is it worth the expenses of upgrading my equipment?

Mad Max Fury Road has the biggest leap in terms of clarity. You guys can complain about it being a 2K DI all you want, but it's true.

Unfortunately the HDR has wildly changed the color palette of the film, which is why I stick with the Blu Ray. It never had a Dolby Vision/HDR release in theaters so there's nothing to reference it to in terms of what the filmmakers may have wanted.

The other major issue with the UHD is varying brightness and contrast. From shot to shot in the same they both alter from extreme to dim. It's really weird and super distracting.

Revenant is very consistent but not good if you wanna show off the wide color gamut.

Tbh we still don't have a movie worthy of being that absolutely perfect reference disc. I suppose The Martian may come closest.

The IMAX segments look quite nice in 4K. The rest, not so much. Some segments make you painfully aware that this movie was in fact upscaled, which is frustrating when we know they could do better if they'd invest in it.

OTOH, the HDR in both this and Star Trek (2009) is a worthy upgrade. Just don't expect the non-IMAX segments to look jaw dropping and you will be good to go.

Star Trek Into The Darkness had elevated blacks in the IMAX space scenes. Unacceptable for OLED. It's as if the space scenes used 1% as it's bottom, instead of 0%. 50 brightness is the proper HDR brightness on most of my UHD blu rays, but with this movie, I had to lower to 46.

I'm surprised point break isn't on anybody's list, the scenery in the blu-ray looked beautiful. I'm also curious about heart of the sea. I'm going to to bby in a bit on some last minute uhd's.

You guys have me really tempted to buy The Martian EE, STID, and Sicario. The only movie I really want is Sicario because I don't own it and I've been waiting for it to go on sale. I already have The Martian in 3D, and the Star Trek ITTD Wal-Mart steelbook which is still sealed. I need another ticket to see Star Trek, so that's like subtracting an extra $8 for the $70 which is how much it would cost to get these 3 movies before tax. Also I just got my Xbox One S so I can actually watch these. The only thing is that I just watched Deadpool and though I noticed the extra sharpness, I was never really impressed. But I'm pretty sure that's just because of how the movie is... I need to watch The Revenant to see if UHD BD is really worth the extra money, but I'm really tempted to get these 3 movies for about $20 each because of the BB deal, it just sucks I already own 2/3 of them...

I picked up Sicario, San Andreas, & Last Witch Hunter. I didn't know what else to get on the last one, it was between Pan, Mad Max, & Heart of the Sea.

I have both of those on 4K UHD. Point Break does look pretty good way better then the Bluray. Heart of the Sea was Awesome in 4K. It is Full Screen which makes it really look awesome.
