Saw an advanced fan screening tonight in IMAX 3D. Loved it. Only minor issues here and there but otherwise it's a great flick. Should have a real fun time at the movies with this one. Didn't fall in love with any of the characters but Sam Jackson, John C Reilly, and John Goodman were their usual loveable selves.
The action and effects were top notch. Looked gorgeous in the laser production. Would prefer to see again in 2D as the IMAX 3D glasses are terrible. Too small field of vision and keep sliding down my face.
Some good screen pop outs with flying objects and landscapes were beautiful in 3D.
Highly recommended guys. Go see it!

I suspect it's not yet in theaters in Europe either for there are no reviews or ratings on IMDB to be found.
More often, pre orders of the blu ray 3D disc are set up alongside the theatrical release.

Yes, please post your thoughts on the 3D layers, pop outs, thanks!

In the US, it will be released in theaters next week, March 10, 2017, though it sounds like it's a week early in other countries. I know Marvel does the same thing.

In terms of pop-outs there was plenty of flying debris and explosions, and some nasty guts too from various creatures. My seats were off to the side of the theatre, so did not have a direct centre view.

I was debating whether to take my 9 year old nephew to see this for his birthday. I think he could handle it, there are a few gory death scenes I wasn't expecting. It feels very much like Jurassic Park however, and the gore is not gratuitous.

Unlike Peter Jackson's Kong, this one gets into the action faster, and doesn't take as long to get to the island for the action to start. No mid-way through character reveal here!
Even at it's 2 hours run time, it felt too short.

Cool, thanks a lot for the 3D review. Can't wait to check out Kong Skull Island 3D next week in 3D theaters.

I believe so, yes. That would be something to see King Kong versus Godzilla, though more realistic than Godzilla vs King Kong from the classic Godzilla film.

And you will see it...in 2020. (Another Godzilla in 2019 first)

Thanks. I didn't know they were making a Godzilla vs Kong reboot. Interesting. I imagine the Kong from Skull Island will confront him? That would be cool.

That's one of the reasons they made this new Kong so large. The regular sized Kong would probably just get stepped-on by Godzilla.

I never caught a 3-D trailer of this, so I'll have to rely on reviews here before a consider attending.

Based on the movie review here, this seems like decent fun.

Didn't know this whole monster movie reboot thing was a new 'universe'.

Looking forward to Skull Island 3D on BD now.

I might check this out this week in 3D. Good news is that it's from Warner Bros, who are mostly reliable for blu ray 3D releases in the US of theatrical 3D movies, unlike Universal's home video department.

Yeah, I'm counting on it as Warners has been the most reliable of the major studios, and decided to see this in 2D since the theater I have gift certificates for was also one of apparently 8 worldwide to get a 70mm film print of this.

Anyway, movie was a lot of fun and 70mm is another format I love. Color and image detail was gorgeous on this and had a rocking sound mix (also as a nice bonus did an overture of the soundtrack before the film since there were no trailers but they wanted 5 minutes to make sure people were getting in) but certainly were a number of shots where the 3D potential came right to mind so hope to see it again on 3D blu.

Just saw it. Fun movie. For people who had a problem with Godzilla, this one's considerably faster-paced and has more monster screentime. Lots of weird giant critters here spread throughout the film. It's not exactly a smart movie (there's a scene where Kong somehow manages to sneak up on someone) but it's entertaining.

3D was good not great. The pop-outs were fewer and less impressive than I expected from the trailer, but there are a handful. Depth is nice and while errors are present (especially on dense foliage) they're not egregious.

The post-credits scene was cool.
[Show spoiler]Basically it involves the Monarch organization showing off cave paintings of Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah to some of this film's surviving characters, and it closes with Godzilla's roar.

I saw King Kong Skull Island last night with my brother. This is a gorgeous looking movie with creature effects galore and 3d layering and depth that is consistently upper medium 3d!!! The characters are not in depth but serviceable for this action adventure story with the exception of John C Reilly who is quite funny. The story kept me engaged and entertained throughout. I want to see this again at the theater and eagerly await the 3d blu-ray release!

This is WB, very dependable for 3DBD. They haven't let me down yet.

Saw this tonight. Thought it was about as good a Kong movie as we could've hoped for.

I didnt think much of the first half hour or so, but once it got going, I got sucked in. It's a much better film than Godzilla. Mostly for the performances. Where Godzilla suffered and lost its way from a lack of Bryan Cranston, Kong benefits from multiple heavyweights adding gravitas and occasional levity to the storyline. It's a more involving film. John C Reilly is the standout.

I wish I could say nice things about the 3D. The visual approach is a bit too stylized and impressionistic to provide much to work with stereoscopically, but they do okay. A few popouts along the way, none of them especially memorable. A number of out of focus weapons thrust out of the screen, and some projectiles. For the most part I was unimpressed, it's just another conversion.

I missed the first minute or two because there was problem with the projection where I had to run out to the lobby and tell them they hadn't put the polarized lens in place. I'd kept waiting for it to be fixed but it seemed like no one else was going to do anything about it; the rest of the audience seemed totally oblivious that we hadn't been seeing actual 3D, just double-images. If they'd actually played 3D trailers ahead of the screening I could've caught it sooner.

Given the fact that this is a set up for a franchise, you have an idea where they can and can't go with this(
[Show spoiler]ie Kong isn't going to end up on the Empire State Building
), but it was great to have a Kong movie that didn't feel like a retread through familiar Kong territory. Be sure to stick around for the post-credit sequence, at the very end.

Personally I'd say I still liked Godzilla more than this. But to be completely honest I'm biased as I've always preferred the lizard to the ape
