Some people in this forum are really in denial about Ghostbusters underperforming at the box-office. At least there won't be a sequel happening anytime soon, so this senseless arguing won't continue for too long.

My kid wants to see Nine Lives. Is it a remake of the Eric Roberts classic, A Talking Cat?

Nah, more like a rip-off of The Shaggy Dog (according to people).

As imsounoriginal just mentioned, Guardians of the Galaxy hit that sweet spot that so few movies seem to--it's the kind of movie that people of all ages can enjoy.

Robbie is probably more of a household name than Quinn, but yeah Will Smith and The Joker are known. Too bad Smith ain't what he used to be and this is an unproven Joker who happens to be the first since Ledger's; coupled with public perception of DC after BvS (the UE is not as pervasively watched and loved as it is on these forums) and it's not exactly like there's a fountain of audience goodwill built up that will translate to a huge opening.

Gonna laugh if Harley Quinn and her ragtag B-team gross more than the Trinity.

The people in my office don't have a clue who she is. I'm talking about people who don't spend most of their free time online, just regular folk.

I think you're overestimating her fanbase.

Harley is as equally known, if not more than Deadpool, and I've heard his movie did ok.

Yes that is true but I wasn't saying the movie wasn't going to make money, I said she is not that well known.

Love when people keep trotting out Deadpool like it's a new standard of comparison. It was an exception, not the norm. There's practically no relation between Deadpool and Squad other than being superhero movies based on characters that most people don't know/care about, and with Squad even that's not really the case thanks to The Joker and Batman being in it (and the apparently popular Harley Quinn).

A lot of people are on vacation and not likely to go to a theater to watch a movie, just look at ST:Beyond's lackluster opening weekend, so I went with a more conservative $80-$90M for this. The trailers show 2-3 interesting characters and leave me unimpressed with the rest of the cast. In particular, casting Will Smith who is only known for PG-PG13 films in this is off-putting.

I predict the film will earn no more than $60M on opening weekend.

In a fairly weak summer I feel like Suicide Squad is THE movie everyone has been waiting for this season. A few of my friends and I don't like superhero movies and don't watch the Marvel ones but all of us want to see this one. It's going to be HUGE.

SUICIDE SQUAD - 174.4 MILLION
NINE LIVES - 12.58 MILLION
