Even if they are just plain white on the other side, I would consider them reversible.

I bought a region free bluray player solely for the UK release of Kikujiro, I have no problem paying $30 a piece for more Kitano in HD, ESPECIALLY for these two films in particular.

Violent Cop received a fine film transfer. Colors look excellent with a steady contrast. It's not eye-popping definition but that was never the intention.

Had these since last month haven't open them yet. Well, in a bit haven't seen an Asian movie in a while.
Never owned an copy of Violent Cop on dvd.

Yea, its 50/50 on the cover art. Kind of like it, kind of wish they chose something better.

Violent Cop is a fantastic film and this was a great release. I'm really hoping we get Sonatine, Kikujiro, and Brother on Blu-ray in the US at some point.

I watched Violent Cop, Boiling Point, and Sonatine on Tubi, and Amazon and... one of them I had to rent which was annoying. I loved all of them so I went ahead and ordered all 3 from Amazon Japan. The covers are so much better than their US Counterparts plus free shipping. I did this with the Outrage trilogy before the pandemic, ordering the Japanese editions. All region A and subtitled of course. I'll share pix once they arrive.

I have not seen Fireworks, or maybe I have but I don't remember it. Is that worth another view? Are there any other Kitano recomendations? How is Kitano's Zatōichi?

1 year bump to answer this. All Kitano's films from Violent Cop to Brother are worth seeing/buying except "Getting Any?" which I just find a chore to watch despite loving Dankan. Brother is the slide from his peak era for me. I don't like Dolls very much, I do like Zatoichi, I do like Takeshis. After that I haven't seen his next several films, some of them are very weird so import blindbuys are too much for me. I do love the Outrage trilogy and saw the Seven Henchman movie it's a decent DTV streaming film type thing. My personal top 5: Sonatine, Boiling Point, Violent Cop, Kikujiro, Hana-Bi

Thank you! Much appreciated. I'll order Kikujiro (which I have now seen twice and love) and Hana-Bi (Fireworks).

And better late than never so much appreciated!

Sonatine is what I would consider to be his best film overall. If you consider the Outrage Trilogy as one film, I also think that's pretty good. Curious about his latest film Kubi as it's about Nobunaga Oda. Still hoping someone in the US finally releases Sonatine on Blu-ray as it's pretty insane that it's missing.

All the Blu-rays by Bandai Visual are excellent and have English subtitles. It's hard enough getting great American films on Blu that I wouldn't hold your breath. Just put the ASIN number from Amazon JP into Amazon.com and you will get free shipping from Japan. I got all of his films this way, including the Outrage Trilogy which I think is amazing.

Dang I didn't even know he had a new film. Would probably blind buy if Film Movement put it out. Yes I slept on the Outrage trilogy for awhile but it's marvelous, Outrage Coda is my favorite, but really all three never get old.

"Even though the film was released with stereo sound in cinemas, this LaserDisc release of the film uses an alternative mono mix."

https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/11643...35/Violent-Cop

Do any of the blu-rays contain the theatrical stereo mix?
