Rock N Roll High School. Out of all of them I've seen Repo Man and the Lookout, but already owned Repo Man.

Picked this up yesterday, and have already watched Kung Fu Killers and The Stuntmen. Great package, this. Possibly the best Aussie Blu-Ray of the year!

Damnit! It still has to get from Oz to wherever the hell Diabolik is, and THEN over to me.

Sigh. . . .

Yes. They seem to have stretched the picture to fill the screen. Totally unwatchable. Shame.

Think Umbrella will offer a fixed replacement blu-ray because of this or is it noting to worry about?

It loooked superb to me. A definite upgrade over the umbrella DVD released several years ago. Haven't check out the ISO's of the other films yet. Has to be the best value blu release this year.

Damn the pre order I placed a few months ago from deep discount was cancelled. Where else can I get this? Might end up with diabolikdvd but would love for it to be a tad cheaper. I'm in USA

I saw it a few nights ago.

Out of the box it looked horrible...boosted colour saturation and contrast, grainy.

Once I dropped the contrast, sharpness, and colour on my TV (i.e. below my standard HDMI input settings), it looked pretty good! I even re-watched the first 20 mins.

Saw this disc last night. Talk about value for money in terms of extras on the disc, and what an historical document of Aussie film, stunts and the changes of the city of Sydney.
(Try getting a permit to execute that final scene in the CBD of Sydney today. Amazing stuff.)

That's a bummer to hear you had to do all of that to your set just to get the Blu-Ray to look good

Not a good sign

So much to enjoy! Especially the commentaries on the SD features where I appreciate that little bit of extra work from the producers of this set. The only "bummer" is the stretched image in one of the SD features included. I do hope they fix the issue, but its something I can live with and it won't put me off in any future Umbrella releases. But I'd also understand those that feel more strongly about the issue.

Best Aussie Blu-ray of the year? I'm not one who's opinion can be trusted as I've haven't had many purchases of blu-rays that were made in Australia, so I would be interested in other people's opinion. To those that have purchased a lot of Australian produced blu-rays, what do you think?

What I can say is that the set is great value, and I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Ozploitation. I love my Not Quite Hollywood two disc set and it's interesting to watch all those uncut interviews included on The Man From Hong Kong. The interviews are really informative and add a lot of "meat" to the set.

It looked respectable to my eyes. Wasn't as "crisp" as I expected, but I did watch Razorback earlier in the day (which has a sharp and "crisp" look) so it's a bit unfair on my side to burden The Man From Hong Kong with the same expectation. Also, I didn't have the same issue as Boschy when watching the film straight-out-of-the-box.

I love seeing those shots!

And one more thing... I picked up my set at at JB Hi-Fi here in Canberra where they mistakenly had The Man From Hong Kong on their 2 for $30 sale so I also got Spectre. So in a way the Bond film only cost me an additional $5 as normally The Man From Hong Kong was priced at $24.95. It wasn't as if one set had the sticker, but the whole lot of them had them. I was happy.

I watched it last night. I'm guessing it's looking as good as it ever will. It was a low budget exploitation production made forty years ago in a country that had got out of the habit of making films. It's not reference quality by any means, but not bad at all. Perfectly watchable.

It could well be a contender for best disc of the year but only when/if they fix Stunt Rock.

Bummed to hear about Stunt Rock being messed up. Was gonna buy this anyway for the main feature, but may put it off in the hopes they fix it. They are a pretty small company though...has anyone tried contacting them about it? Have been waiting for a blu-ray or even affordable (non-OOP) DVD of Stunt Rock ever since seeing that mind-bogglingly awesome trailer, though I know the film itself could prove to be tedious, I just have to see it. I wonder if film elements for Stunt Rock still exist, still hoping for a blu.

I skimmed through bits, The Man from Hong Kong looks okay.

I am no means an expert. I've seen other Aussie Exploitation pictures on bluray, Turkey Shoot, Patrick, The Long Weekend and they all look better than the Man from Hong Kong.

I don't know what elements they had to work with. It looks like a release print with additional color correction. It's soft. contrast is odd. It doesn't look like something from a negative or interpostive.

Still, this film is hard to find anyways so I'm glad there's a release. I'm still happy I own it. The only way to see it before was you tube. Could it look better? Depends if elements exist and to what condition. Most likely.
