Yes. The price increase will only be applicable for anything after Sept. 22nd.

Anything bought now will just tack on to your existing end date. You could buy like 2 years now and that would push the price increase out 2 years.

It'd be nice if you could load screenshots to your cloud storage, or at least share them to sites other than FB and Twitter (like google photos, etc)

I find it hysterical that people are stating that the price hike "can't be helped" and that we should just deal with it. PS+ started as a barebones service that only offered cloud saves, some extra discounts, and free PS One and “minis” games in a time where X360 was the market leader. It wasn’t until 2012 when the Instant Game Collection properly launched that the service gained any traction, thanks to the quality of the games offered at the time. It made XBL look like a ripoff by comparison. Once Xbox lost its market leadership, they started adding more value to their console: Games with Gold, X360 backwards compatibility, cross-buy with Windows 10, etc.

Sony has been hacked multiple times in the past, the service has been down for weeks at a time, they can’t even provide a name change option for users after 10 years (!) of the launch of PSN. But sure, this price hike is totally warranted and not because they can get away with it without providing nothing in return. I saw this trend coming a while back, so instead of being at the mercy of the current, arrogant market leader in the console space, I decided to build a gaming PC 2 years ago and never looked back.

Honestly I play so little MP any more don't know if I care to pay for PSN. If I do not, do I still get access to any updates/patches for the game, like with all those Witcher 3 updates?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_P...Network_outage

The attack occurred between April 17 and April 19, 2011, forcing Sony to turn off the PlayStation Network on April 20. On May 4 Sony confirmed that personally identifiable information from each of the 77 million accounts had been exposed. The outage lasted 23 days.
Do your fact checking next time.

I lived in the same home for 10 years now (it's actually a wonderful home) and didn't get SINGLE increase. I'm still paying the same price.

With 4% yearly increase you would pay 1 1/2 of the original price after 10 years. That's kinda insane.

And let's calculate it for 50 years - you would pay 6 times more than the original price. $1000 would be $7100. (that's compound interest for you)

Moving on about the outage is fine. However we should never forget why it was down in the first place and how much of our shit was stolen.

Exactly. After that outage I removed my CC info but still subbed for PS+ for around 3 years. After the PS4 launch however, the service went downhill fast. Earlier this year I let my sub lapse and I think it was the right call. I was in for the monthly games and they were just not cutting it.

you sure about that? I would think Sony would protect themselves against that. Can you even purchase multiple years at a time?

Yes you can multi-stack $49.99 PS+ memberships. Unless they break their terms of service agreement, you'll not be charged more then current prices.

I actually regret stacking though as when I did it, it was before the free games became 85% indie only.

wow, that's pretty great - assuming you know you're going to want to be a Plus member that long, of course. I actually like the idea of most the free games being indie because i might discover something that otherwise might not gain traction in the market.
