I don't know if it's just the best buy exclusive, but this comes in a CD jewel case. That sucks.

That's weird. And it includes a folded up poster? No thanks.

No poster included. You have to send off for it.

That is weak. I'll pass on BB.

And it doesn't look like it's at Target (in store). Is it available anywhere else?

Any photos? I feel like it may be similar to the case they used for the 30th Anniversary Celebration.

It's in my car and I'm at work, but it's a standard size CD case. Theres a small wrap around slip advertising the best buy exclusive deal.

But that case looks to be about the same size as a blu ray case...

Good to know. Then it sounds like I'll just order mine from Amazon.

I've watched Part 1 (disc 1) and haven't noticed much if any of an upgrade from the DVD. The lack of upgrade is especially noticeable in the Dylan interviews shot for this film. Huh.

I wonder what format those interviews were shot on. Apparently, it was done over 10 hours in 1997. I assume it was shot on 16mm, but no one has ever confirmed that.

According to Scorsese, in his interview on the disc, the Dylan interview was done in 2001.

Any noticeable audio improvement?

My copy arrives tomorrow. A few weeks ago I rewatched a chunk of the DVD. Held up remarkably well at my seating distance. Bought it anyway. Figured the audio might be improved. Not too interested in more Liam Clancey interviews but can listen to Scorsese or Van Ronk all day, so hopefully there's plenty more of that. Plus I can give my old copy to a film-buff friend who's curious about Dylan but owns none.

Since the Complete Basement Tapes I've decided to vote my wallet unequivocally where Dylan's concerned. I want the spigot wide open. The 18-CD big blue box was tough... and worth every penny. The upcoming 36-CD Live 1966 should keep me occupied a long time — and be a great companion to No Direction Home. Rumor has it the next Bootleg Series release will be focused on his Born Again/gospel years. That one will "test my faith" and commitment... and my wallet's.

It seemed to me that Scorsese's fingerprints were less visible on his Dylan doc than they were on his docs about George Harrison or the Rolling Stones.

Thank you. Now I don't feel so bad about not picking up.

I would think that most of the footage was shot on film so you would see a definite upgrade.
If they went cheap and just re-purposed the DVD transfer for a cash grab, well that is good to know.

I do know that this site won't review it because they seemed to have lost all interest in reviewing Blu-Rays anymore.

I got it a few days ago and only had the time to give it a very quick glimpse, but the Picture Quality definitely looked better than the DVD to me.

Does this look like a razor sharp movie shot digitally yesterday? No.

But the little I fast forwarded around to check out looked great to me.

Looking very much forward to having the time to sit down and watch the entire 3 1/2 hours very soon.

I would believe Scorsese. I think some of the others were done earlier. Ginsberg passed away in 97.

I don't believe this is a repurposed transfer from the DVD days, I've managed to take a glimpse at it, but I haven't sat down to watch it at length yet. Plus, they did a screening of this about a month ago in Tulsa and it was supposedly a fairly recent DCP.

I've been a Dylan fan since about 2008. I stumbled upon him by accident. Tell Tale Signs had just come out and I could believe that was the same man as the one singing "I Want You" and "Talkin' World War III Blues." I think that's one of the reasons I keep listening to him, I like the mystery. I could hear him sing anything, the Jazz songbook stuff, Christmas Album, Self Portrait and the like, even Dylan 1973 and Knocked out Loaded.

It's like Tom Waits sang,

"The obsession's in the chasing and not the apprehending
The pursuit you see and never the arrest."

Thank you Bob.

My copy is arriving today from Target - don't know what packaging I'll get. I've still got my DVD, and 60 days to return it, so I won't be opening this puppy until some positive reviews come in and/or more folks confirm that it's an improvement. So far : a couple of lukewarm "'it may be" betters and no response to the fella who asked about at least "any audio improvement"?
