Not to worry. Most stores did not even have 20 they only had 12 each (HD DUD D3 players).

Here is a story from one of the shoppers from a Canadian Forum:

"Got there (Future Shop) at 0500 hours and the line was already 250-300 strong. The FS staff were running around with little pieces of paper for specific merchandise and I ask about the D3.
Only 12 I'm told and all taken. *sigh*
I stood in line anyway, I've committed a 40 minute drive I might as well see what's happening. Initially grabbed an A3 for $250 and then thought long and hard, put it down, grabbed Band of Brothers for $40 and a Coke™ and walked out....after paying, of course.

Then, in a fit of pique I went to my local EBGames and bought an 80 gb PS3. I realize that doesn't make any sense. Anyway, I'm off to rent Spiderman3 for our new PS3. The wife's idea."

You see --> I told you guys this latest DUD firesale was a great thing. NOBODY wants to pay more then 99$ for a DUD player Even the people that are willing to pay 99$, once they find out they can't, turn around and go spend 450$ on a PS3 because they deem that to be a great value. Now that they have Blu, they will never consider DUD again (even at 99$).

The question now arises, which model is it? And how many is each store limited to selling? LMAO! I can't get over how desperate Toshiba is getting!!!
Sounds like out of business sale to me.
Get rid of them now while you can.
Most of them will be used as upconverting DVD anyway in 2008

The weird part was they had never sold that D3 model before and they aren't selling it anymore either.

I was in a future shop on boxing day (actually two of them) and listened in on some of the home theater sales pitches. They were pitching Blu-ray at everyone buying a TV. One person asked about the $99 HD-DVD player, obviously a fanboy from how they were talking about it. The Future Shop guy looked him in the eye and said "Look at all our sit down displays. Look in our home theater rooms. Every last one has a Blu-ray player. Do you really think we would do that if we thought HD DVD was better?"
