I agree.

It sounds like Sony's individual branches, games and home video, are unfortunately not cooperating with each other under a unified vision.

Their branches have not communicated with each other for a while now. Also, their games branch is profitable/successful, while the studio is not.

I would agree with this except for the fact that GotG Vol 2 still doesn't have a 3D preorder up. I'm getting a bit nervous.

EDIT: Interesting -- Amazon had a preorder up for the DVD and Blu-ray, but now they don't. Hope rekindled.

I am getting confused. I thought this was a Smurfs thread. So what is there hope for? Smurfs or GOTG2?

I should have been more clear. I was saying smurfs 3d bluray is confirmed for an aussie release in july. And as the person above that mentioned guardians i also was saying that had an august release here.

So both will be available in 3d. Though they may be imports for Americans.

Looks like this might now get a UK 3D blu ray - there's no mention of specs on this listing yet, but it's not the regular blu ray or the 4K version as those have separate (cheaper) listings: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smurfs-Lost...ds=smurfs+lost

Okay, thanks.

The 3D in Smurfs Lost Village reminds me of the 3D from Epic 3D, from Blue Sky Studios. It's not strong 3D as with Sony Animation's Open Season from 2006, but medium 3D layering that still looks good in 3D, and some pop outs made specifically for 3D in this Smurfs adventure that exceeds the live action Smurfs by a large margin IMO, this being much more authentic to the cartoon series. Unfortunately, the US mainstream mostly gave up on the Smurfs by time Sony got it right (3's a charm)...

boxofficemojo.com
Smurfs:
The Lost Village 3D

Distributor: Sony / Columbia Release Date: April 7, 2017
Genre: Animation Runtime: 1 hrs. 21 min.
MPAA Rating: PG Production Budget: $60 million
Get local showtimes at IMDb

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $43,745,302 23.6%
+ Foreign: $141,800,000 76.4%
= Worldwide: $185,545,302

Once again, the box office outside the US saved this movie from being a flop. This is now considered a success. I liked the movie, though I do miss the original voices. Even Asrael the cat, voiced by Frank Welker as in the original cartoon, sounded unlike the original for some reason. To be fair, Mr. Welker is elderly, and understandably may not have the vocal cords he once had.

I agree with you from start to finish! Sad this was not the success in America that it should have been. Looks like another import for this 3d bluray

I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger on importing this Smurf 3D blu. The first two Smurf movies left me cold. Perhaps it's better for 5 to 10 year olds - LOL!

Lol. I'm with you here. However, i thought the 3D was well done and my kids enjoy them so i figure I might as well bite.

The Lost Village has the original 80's "simple tales of bold adventure" style which the other two movies sorely lacked. This one is entertaining and the 3D is impressive. At least it was theatrically.

Thanks. Yes, this should've been their first effort but someone making the decisions probably said, "What if it was set in New York City, and it had a celebrity in there too, and was about his life and then these Smurfs enter the picture?" Thankfully this new one didn't have a single live action human in the whole movie, and stayed an animated cartoon. That said, best to be a Smurfs fan to want to check it out on blu ray 3D.

Glad you got to see it. I agree, much better film than those other two in terms of being more accurate to the original Smurfs animated series from the 1980's under Hanna Barbera.

The first one wasn't too bad, about what you'd expect for a modern 3D animated kids movie.

The second movie wasn't that great, but it was still mostly watchable. PQ and 3D were good.

In many cases, like Hotel Transylvania 2, the typical second movie is a bit of a cash-in.

This new Smurf movie sounds like an honest effort and might be as good as Trolls (I hope).

If Sony is really done with 3D in America, I'm going to be incredibly bummed...

This isn't the standard type disc that they do, but DeepDiscount and Blowitoutahere have a decent number of Aus imports though their stock can be hit or miss to say the least even for the items that sell.

Note the AUSD/USD exchange is about 0.75 currently
Thanks. Well its releasing there on 7/5 but I have yet to see legit coverart so I'm skeptical. Amazon Germany has it up for preorder for an August release.

I've only ordered from JB Hi-fi... Can anyone vouch for the others? I pre-ordered a copy from Amazon DE several weeks back but would prefer English text to match the other two films. A Lenti Slip would be even Smurfier! I thought we might even see a Limited Edition 3D Trilogy package somewhere.

PLEASE let my know if Japan/Korea/HK/Taiwan posts a Region A pre-order. I've searched the regular channels to no avail. Mother-Smurfing dill holes.

If you check out Amazon France there is a 3D trilogy up for preorder.
