I'm going by reports and reviews. If a 4K is a significant improvement- maybe-
but I really want to wait for DV.
So far most of what I have read give the 4K version a very mild notch above the blu ray.

DV stream looks better on my Oled than 4k.

Haven't started yet (waiting for 2nd gen UHD players).

I'll be looking to upgrade any of the "early" blu-rays that may not have been handled properly. There are lots and lots of early Warner and Universal (especially) blu-rays that badly need upgrades. If the blu-ray is already very strong presentation or from a 4K source itself, then it will be more of a "case by case" to see if the UHD offers a substantial upgrade.

Add in a few titles that I currently don't have at all...

Conan, Predator, Abyss, X-Men DOFP R.C.

I'm looking at 50 catalog titles !!!

And then throw in a few newly released movies each year. It's quite an expense -- tempered by the fact that they seem uninterested in releasing catalog titles unless they are tied into a new movie coming out.
thats exactly what they are doing. only releasing majority of catalogue titles that tie in with cinema release of the new movie!

Any new releases I want will be bought in 4K by default. As for movies I already own? Reviews and price will be the driving factors behind those; some like Star Wars or James Bond I'll have to buy day one no matter what, but for most, I'll have to be patient and do the research to make sure it's actually worth upgrading.

I promised I wouldn't from DVD to Blu-ray, but I ended up doing more than I really wanted to.

For now, I'm primarily a 3D enthusiast, so if a new release has either/or 3D or 4K, then I'll go for 3D. Sony kicks ass by offering both 3D and 4K in one package.

But, for new releases, I'm thinking I'll wait until some of these discs are close to $19.99 and snag 'em.

I'll upgrade movies like Terminator I and II, and the Star Wars saga (gotta see what changes the movies will have *this* time). I'm thinking the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be upgraded, and definitely Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit movies. EDIT: Haven't made up my mind on the Disney animated films; I'm thinking 1080 might just be good enough for me ...

But, honestly, I think 1080BD has given me pretty much what I want: flawless picture and sound.

(And if you know me at all, then you KNOW I'm jumping on a 4K version of "Armageddon.")
Here's the existing thread asking which titles would ÿou upgrade?

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hlight=upgrade

There is also various "wish list" threads asking for which titles ppl are seeking on 4k

New releases with Dolby Vision only for me.

Not really worried if it doesn't happen.

Due to complaints about the majority of releases, plus problems with players, I'm not sure if I will go the 4K route yet

I don't plan on upgrading any non-catalog titles from after ~2010 (whenever Warner stopped using VC-1 is about the time when I'd say most new releases were fine). If it happens that it's a Pacific Rim situation where there is a lot of praise, then I might consider.

As far as new releases from before that go, Chris Nolan's films spring to mind as he famously does not use a DI and his films are ready to go for the new format. And their current transfers leave much to be desired.

For catalog titles, anything that didn't get a high profile remaster (Gladiator, The Terminator, etc) is up for consideration. The majority of Warner's rich catalog falls into this category. I won't hold my breath for Universal based on Bourne.

Actually I lied, I know I'll cave on The Terminator.

Predator UHD would be a must buy for me. I think thats the film I've rewatched the most in my life.

If they somehow did an Atmos mix (will get that Sony Atmos soundbar this year), would love to hear the predators gun projectile fly over my head!

I went and sold all my BDs in preparation to get the 4K versions whenever they release. Went from 300+ to 45 discs. I did however take most of my essential movies and loaded them to vudu so I still have them though. So if I like the movie enough where I know I'll rewatch I'll get the 4K, even if it's a slight upgrade. I'm all in just as I was with BD

Not really, my wife would murder me in my sleep. Definitely my favorite movies plus things like the Marvel movies or ones I know I will watch over and over.

Yeah, I have to be careful: My "collecting OCD" will make me want to buy a ton of films I don't need if I buy one in the series. I've stayed away from Jason Bourne 4K because I don't want to buy the rest of the series in 4K.

Yeah, I've seen the problem. And the problem is me.

And I've always been partial to Annie from Community's version:

All new releases and whatever catalog titles I like I'll buy in 4K as they come out. I'm already up to 31, some are better than others but even the worst one's show some improvement in UHD.

I think I'm pretty much done buying regular Blu-ray at this point. I've started going through my (at one point) over 500+ Blu-ray collection and selling off titles that were spur of the moment/never opened type of buys. That and selling the digital copies helps defer the cost of the 4K purchases.

Only the very best films that would also truly benefit from the added clarity/HDR.

Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, 2001, The Dark Knight trilogy, Avatar, Titanic, Indiana Jones, MCU... that's about it. And that's only if the 4k transfers are absolutely stellar. I don't plan on double dipping a whole lot with this format.

Thats me, if I already have it on Blu. If I have it on Blu and Ive seen it a ton with no real interest to re-watch, Im not buying. I sold my DVD collection so I'm open to a lot of buys there, and that is where Labrynth UHD came in for me.

Of course Im buying the hell out of new releases, but stuff like Aliens, Terminator, LOTR, etc... would be GREAT.
