Once Viz took over the movie rights in 2006 nothing Pokemon related has ever had special features, more or less.

YES! Thank you. So excited to get this ... Having the 5.1 tracks included makes it so worth it.

That's why I sometimes hate having to find limited edition SteelBooks. Even if you can get to the store in time before they run out, sometimes the only one(s) they have left are damaged or flawed.

I thought it was kind of funny because I bought the first 3 movies steelbook on Amazon and it came in a big bubble mailer with no padding and doesn't have a single scratch or dent on it. You'd think it would be easier to find a better condition one in store, guess not lol.

I totally disagree. Anime release is an Anime release. Like if you buy a Pokemon DVD or Blu-ray at like Best Buy, it would either be in the New Release section or the Anime section not Children's, Action or whatever other genres they categorize their Blu-ray and DVD sections. So which means you may have to go into their Anime section to buy something Pokemon related.

The basic point on having an Anime section is for Anime-related articles for people who are hardcore fans to casuals and even newbies. So like this section is for more like the non-Anime titles.

Not every store has an anime section, and even then, I have seen certain titles before in the children's/family or regular animated film/TV section, but I agree. Pokémon is anime related. It originates from Japan, looks anime-like and belongs in the anime section. Fact. It does not matter if someone is just a casual fan or has no personal interest in visiting the sub-form. Pokémon is still an anime related title.

Why can't it be in both?

Anime forum is tucked away and essentially nonexistant. I wouldn't have noticed a thread for this if it was in the anime section for a few months at least.

Same for me, when I want to talk about the actual shows, I go there which isn't often. Otherwise I wouldn't really see any news about it because anime or not, this is the forum I look to for news about actual releases, I wouldn't go to the movies forum to look for release dates. I wouldn't have known about this if it wasn't posted here, unless I just randomly decided to look through all of the release calendar.

I decided to suck it up and went to Best Buy today and got it, none were out and had no spot for it on the shelves anywhere so I asked and the guy went and got it from the back. I checked bestbuy.com before I left and it said just said "available today" so I guess they got some more in, but now it's saying "fewer than 3 left in stock" again. I wonder if the set for the first three just didn't sell that well so they made this one a retailer exclusive and just didn't produce many.

Well many stores don't even carry enough Anime titles to even have an Anime section. Even Best Buy has locations like that with others that do.

This thing magically appeared out of thin air! I went into Best Buy yesterday to pick up Steelbook Big Lebowski, and there's this gem! Instant sale.

I've re-watched Darkrai and Giratina so far, and I've got to say Viz Media did their homework. Audio is 5.1, and it does have English Subtitles this time. But I didn't see a Japanese audio track. Each movie is its own disc, unlike how the Pokémon 4ever, Destiny Deoxys, etc. compilation is on one disc. The video is out of sight, no compression artifacts. Highly, HIGHLY recommend this collection if you skipped over them. Rise of Darkrai is why I got it, but the other three movies are also great. (Masters of Illusion's animation is a little less on quality than the previous three, but it's still a great flick.)

So from the sounds of it, I assume this is a BB exclusive until the normal retail release in December?

I found maybe four copies on the shelf in my BB. However, I might wait to get this (I blind-bought Ice Age 5 instead). Strangely, they also had two copies of the Master Quest set that was recently released. I don't recall them ever having the first four sets.

That's what I assumed, but the individuals I spoke to at the store weren't sure and I wasn't able to confirm...

I don't know if this was already reported, but according to Viz's website, the official release date for this set outside Best Buy is December 6.

When will this be available from other retailers?

I've had my preorder at Amazon since Thanksgiving but BestBuy still has the "Only @ Bestbuy" tag on their listing.

[Edit]

Received a shipping notice from Amazon.

Nice, maybe when Viz requires the rights for movie 4-7 we'll see more collections like this.

Are there any plans by Viz Pictures to release more Pokémon films on blu-ray? And how do these movies look since they were never reviewed?
