What a waste of UHD, a crap movie is still a crap movie, no matter what the definition.

Whew, and for a minute there, I thought we'd be getting it only in either sepia or B&W!
Dodged that disaster...

That scene when they prep the Missouri is badass though...

I definitely don't want that either. Preferably, from this point on, studios would only release 4k DIs but that's not likely :/

How IS this movie anyway? Is the action and CG at least enjoyable? Story doesn't have to be great so long as there's some reason to watch it.

Its not a bad sci-fi flick. Liam Neeson is entertaining as a hard ass military guy. I always liked it.

Fair point sir, fair point, but the reality of the situation is that widespread 4K rebuilds of existing 2K features (and there's a lot of them) just ain't gonna happen - so do we issue a moratorium on issuing the best (and, given this thread's source, the worst) movies of the last 15 years in UHD then? Nah. But for film production going forward they really should ensure that 4K finishes become the rule rather than the exception, especially given the astonishing amounts of money that these blockbusters cost these days.

Yes the HDR looks great but upscaling the 2k film made it more grainy, especially during darker scenes.
I suppose you're thinking of BvS also, but I found the softer grain in that to be less objectionable than the rampant mastered-in-4K grain of older features like GBII. I didn't have a problem with Star Trek '09's grain either apart from the nasty compression artefacts.

Look how well BD turned out...
We've gotten studios being extremely lazy or careless.
DVD quality on BD
VHS quality on BD
LD quality on BD

NONE of that ever should have happened.
There NEEDS to be a set standard and it NEEDS to be adhered to!

UHD should have nothing but 4k/8k downconverted scans.
If they don't want to fix the FX, then don't put it on UHD!
If they don't stick to the theatrical presentation, be it imax or other (extended cuts are fine as long as both are present) then don't put it on UHD!

Speak for yourself, Mr. Exclamation Point. I'm quite enjoying my 2K upscales with improved colours, etc.

That's obvious, still not the point I was making though. Raiders as an example is interchangable with any other classic title for example purposes.

How about you just don't buy it, and let others who will appreciate it have the chance to enjoy it. All the movies I've seen so far look significantly better than the BD version.

I've bought a bunch.
But how long will it be before we start seeing remastered in 4k/8k titles and we'll have/want to double dip?
Why not just do it right the first time?

Double dips are a part of the collector's life. I don't think 4K upgrades from 2K DIs already released are around the corner so why should we wait 5 years or more when most of the benefit is non-resolution based anyway? Anyone who wants to wait for them to do it "right" always has the option to do so. I don't releasing the best version they have now will affect the timing of the upgrade if it's far down the road.

We have to keep in mind that studios are luke warm about this format to begin with. Many if not most people thought this format would never see the light of day (particularly with no internet connection required). 4K DIs as the norm are coming but the format's existence is not going to accelerate that process. Too little profit for too much expenditure at the present time.

^ Spot on. We're lucky to have gotten this far with a new physical media format, faults and all.

I'm surprised by the titles and the amount we're getting as is.

I liked this movie and have no problems with it. I'm buying the UHD version for the DTS:X and yes, I want it to be as over the top, bat shit crazy as the movie was and that will make it worth every penny to me! I tend to love the crazy action movies that many critics and thread posters seem to hate.

I'm an audio guy and I fully support ATMOS/DTS:X so, anything that takes advantage of either of those, I'm down! as my memory serves, the 5.1 DTS-HD-MA audio was very good with the 1080p release,
I expect them to make my ceiling and surround back speakers hurt!

Universal Studios, don't let me down with the audio on this UHD release, please, for me.............BRING IT!

I'm with you too. I love the film. It sold me with that burrito run. It cracked me up, and set the tone.

One of the rare films I end up physically cheering in in parts.
