It will still be breathtaking in 1080p

It IS breathtaking in 1080p... I honestly can't fathom how amazing the 4K is going to be!

4k version just dropped to $49.99, on Amazon.
Looks like I will be swapping my preorders.

Just placed my order for a low-definition copy of Planet Earth II.

obviously the writers on Ellen DeGeneres' show didn't do their homework - they were saying 'II' would be on Nat Geo, but the second series is a BBC American channel exclusive.

.....Anyways I almost never buy BDs the day they get released but Planet Earth II warrants a day 1 buy! And it's a blind buy at that!

All we need now is a Cosmos II . 😁

If the blu-ray is a 2-disc set and the 4K edition has both 4K + blu-ray, shouldn't it be a 3- or 4-disc set instead of just 2 discs?

Oh, that sucks
The old cover mentions 4k+Blu ray. (still can see it under "slip" cover art in this site). But even the old cover does say 2-discs, so I guess they corrected the cover art to just say 4K.

I do have a 4ktv but don't have the 4k player yet. I'm waiting for Xbox Scorpio or Xbox one slim to be really cheap. So planning to wait until black Friday.

I definitely want 4k edition for this, but I guess I'm not going to buy this on day 1 anymore.
I just buy too many movies to double dip on this. Hopefully this will go down more in price by the time I buy my 4k player.

Is this the first release to be 4k only without Blu-Ray disc included?

Some documentaries have had 4k only. I'm not a fan of either buying the UHD set and getting a UHD player for my current 1080p display, getting the BD and later upgrading to UHD when I get a UHD display, or holding off completely until I get a UHD display.

I have never watched the first Planet Earth. Is it worth getting Planet Earth 2 in regular Bluray? Or is it only worth it in 4k? Also should I get the first Planet Earth too?

If you have 4K capability, then I'd probably go with 4K. But I don't and it seems the 4K version doesn't come with a regular Blu-ray, so I'll be picking up the regular edition.

The first Planet Earth is great -- get the special edition if you end up getting it.
