Default Coold, so cccooold.

I had freezing problems with a "Tan design" version of Goblet... has anyone figured out a cure, or what stores may have stock that's unaffected???

Default Bitrates and Picture Quality

Typically, I have preferred the higher bit-rate AVC titles to VC-1 encodes (i.e. Warner clones). But this last Potter Blu-Ray, Phoenix, in VC-1 at a low bit rate according to the Chart stickied above, looks outstanding.

So I guess VC-1 done with great care can at lower bit rates still look fantastic.
Or perhaps, with a transfer looking this good at low bit-rate, we have only begun to scratch the surface of what kind of quality is possible with better/higher bit-rate encodes?

Thoughts?

Has anyone figured out where the sneak peak of "Half Blood Prince" is? or is it only on the SD DVD?

I agree that HP 5 looks considerably better than most low bitrate Warner releases, but I also have no doubt that it could have looked much better still if it had been given a higher bitrate treatment of the type that Fox, Sony, and Disney have used on their best recent releases.

i just watched them all last night. They do in fact look very good. I dont have a home theater system =/ but it did sounds really good too. If I were you I'd buy them. The only downer is that the widescreen is 2.34:1 I believe and theres black bars for those of us with 1.7's:1 tvs. But they dont bother me too much, some people get angry about it though

Default Chamber of Secrets

I got HP 4 and 5 in a trade, so I have been renting the others. I was never inclined to see these, but the first was a pretty good movie. So I continued. Last night watched Chamber of Secrets. The story itself was not as good as the first, but that's beside the point. I found the CG backgrounds and some other effects to be very, very poor. This movies seems put together in much haste.

The scenes that were obviously green screen has backdrops that looked almost posterized, or as if they put a paint by numbers picture in the background. Perhaps what I am trying to say is that it all looked very one-dimensional. The worst, though, was when you saw Hermione as the cat. You could clearly make out the interface between the mask around her eyes and the rest of the cat face. The moved out of unison. All I see are raves about the PQ of this movie. While these certainly are not Blu-ray issues, they were big distractions. Once you see one big flaw, you can't help but keep looking for more through the whole movie.

Not to burst your bubble, but the seventh book is being split into two movies, so it will end up being eight BD cases. Maybe there's room for one more in there?
