Any chance someone could post the raw numbers by region for the 3 main consoles from the first 3 weeks of December? VGChartz is blocked here. I'd be really interested to see if the PS3 is making up their lag in North America in the PAL and Japanese regions. Much thanks in advance.

No, he was referring to the weekly delta not the overall installed base. RIF.

Add in he fact that M$ had zero next-gen comp at the time and it is actually quite impressive. Softy should have made more hay while they had the monopoly and yet Sony managed to match them exactly and now we get to see if Sony drops off as sharply as the 360 did... I'm betting it doesn't.

Not really, the PS2 had similar sales to the PS3 and 360, if you use vgchartz, you'll see this (assuming it is accurate)

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?con...=All&weeks=400

So the PS3 is doing fine - what is clear by comparison is that the Wii is selling outrageously well compared to almost any other console handheld or home console - it will be interesting to see what happens with the Wii, will it continue to sell or will it fade away

The dissapointing part of PS3 sales are on the software side especially in america, i am dissapointed to see that Uncharted is not doing to well - if you have a PS3 you owe it to yourself to buy this excellent game and support the developers in making this outstanding game.

Here's some food for thought - if we expect that Warner will go Blu early next year - this will signal the death of HD DVD, now combine that with all the great games coming next year - MGS4, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Final Fantasy 13(fingers crossed), GT5, Haze, The Agency, The Getaway, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Resistance 2, Socom, Eight Days .......ect.

(Note: the highest selling games on ps1 and ps2 have been MGS, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo and GTA)

Along with all the multi platform games, PS3 will be the console of the year in 2008.

In comparison to the 360, which only has Too Human, Splinter Cell....and i am struggling to think of any others, the Wii also has only one notable titles which are Smash Bros. (awesome game) and Mario Kart, unless they introduce more mini games or more zelda, metroid, mario i think it may be a hard year for the Wii and the 360 and i can see them cutting prices.

You need to understand what people are saying. He is saying that it will sell more units during '08 not necessarily that it will pass the total sold since inception. Why do you not see that happening considering it already has passed the 360 this holiday season?

Not really. It has gotten better. It's fantastic for me right now. I've got several games I'm playing regularly. I've got a bunch of downloaded games I'm playing. Big games get good updates and additions. I've got a fully featured 1.1 Blu-ray player now with full network access to my PCs around the house. And I've got far more top of the line titles on Blu-ray than I would have expected for this time in the life cycle of a new format.

Everyone has different priorities. I'm not a GTAIV, FF kind of guy so that probably helps some. Right now, and essentially since the start of Q4, the PS3 has been delivering in spades on all fronts. Before that it was delivering heavily on the Blu-ray side. Now it's the best of all worlds. Why else would I have three in the household (6 adults in the house).

Great world wide sales!

The Wii and DS rule the Software and Hardware Sells. I guess it's a good week for Nintendo.

mgs4 exclusive? for 08 thats a for sure. who knows after that tho. but we all need to hope little big planet delivers
That goes without saying that GTAIV will sell better on the 360, because it has a larger North American install base.

No matter matter Konami says, the creators of MGS4 will not port to the 360. No way. It is a japanese team working on it, and there is no way they are going to make a diluted title for the 360. It's supposed to take an entire 50 gig disc. How is Konami supposed to make money when 6 discs are required for a port, just to satisfy the North American market (which has always been second in the MGS peking order to the Japanese market). While sales are important, the 360 is not a smash success that would drive the MGS team to abandon exclusivity.

Little Big Planet should get many PS2 users on the PS3 bandwagon (thus avoiding the Wii vacuum).

However, despite that, I don't see how BD SALs would beat HD DVD SALs this holiday season. It'll be closer than they would like. Also, 3 million PS3s = 600,000(20%) SALs, That's enough to carry BD right there and have lots left over.
HD-DVD have been very quiet since the $99 A2 sale, they also felt the need to include the 360 add-on in their figures.

Meanwile annecdotal evidence, admittedly from BD supporters, suggest BD players have been selling very well.

I get the impression many HD-DVD owners think the formats sold 1m standalones, while BD has maybe sold 100k!

I think Little Big Planet is going to be a like it or hate it game; right now I don't care for the game. Hopefully they'll have a demo so I can try it out. If not, then I'm passing on it.

As for MGS4 I say it’s unlikely we’ll see it on the 360, but possible. Remember MGS2 did came out on the Xbox.

i agree completely. it has gotten a lot better. there's no denying that. and you make the best point of all. people have different priorities, so we'll all look at it differently. honestly..i use my ps3 a lot more for blu-ray than i do for games, which saddens me. i'd rather it was vice-versa.

well i think there's a reason they complained about the ps3 user base. they need to make money, and if sony doesn't deliver, then theyll go multi-platform on us. i wouldn't say they'll for sure go for the 360 as well, but don't rule it out. and really..if its a timed exclusive, who would even care

It'll vary within a household. In mine, it works like this;

My parents have a 40gb PS3 in their living room. They use it to play movies and to look at pictures I put there for them as well as home videos that are streamed to it.

My office has a 60gb PS3 in it that's used solely for DVD/Blu-ray reviewing.

My media room has a 60gb launch PS3 in it. I use it for movie viewing, game playing, network streaming of videos, music, pictures and downloaded game content. Everyone in the family - me, my wife, my two kids, use it for movie and game playing.

Each machine is serving its own purpose. Each of them is functioning extremely well. I haven't had one issue with playback of anything on these machines since they were put into their respective places. And considering where I started just over a year ago, the differences are *amazing* when you look at how far that single machine has come.

I don't dispute the issues a variety of gamers are having with the system. At the same time, that's the frickin' norm when it comes to the first year or so of a console launch. I was the same way with my 360 for the first year. One or two games, that's it. Christmas 06 had a lot of great games for that quarter I picked up. This year the PS3 started nailing that down. Each successive year is the same in how it gets more diverse and enjoyable.

Again, for me, the PS3 "got better" and fast around September. Once Warhawk blazed into my media room, I've been in blu-heaven.

That was to test the market.
But because MGS2 didn't do so well on the 360, MGS3 was PS2 exclusive, and it sold very well.

Which is why MGS4 will be exclusive on PS3 as well.
The chances of it being exclusive is way higher than it being port to the 360.

That and Konami/Kojima confirmed it WAY too many times. That it will be exclusive.

True, but the Xbox didn't have a very large Market. MGS4 will sell well, but no where near MSG3 numbers, unless alot more PS3 are sold between now and release date.

I'm sure MGS4 will be PS3 exclusive, but they could make MGS4: Substance and release it to the Xbox 360. (I'm not saying this will happen, I'm just saying it's possible.)

Default Plenty of Games for the playstation 3

the One thing in all of this is for the past "2" playstation systems not counting the PSP because its just in its early stages also anyway..the 10 year support cycle is real. anyone who does not think so SONY's past proves otherwise when it comes to playstation systems.

the current cycle is 10 years per playstation system just like the playstation 1, and playstation 2 there is going to be more games in the us market than there were for the playstation 1, and playstation 2. the reason is simple the fact that "Japan & the US" are the same region. How will that play out well look no further than this little bit of info:

cumulative number of software titles as of march 2006

playstation 1 (7,888) where do most of the games get developed for the playstation 1 that's right...japan with (4,914)
playstation 2 (7,163) where do most of the games get developed for the playstation 2 that's right...japan with (4,184)

http://playstation.com/business.html

unlike last 2 playstation game systems the playstation 3 has the advantage of the US and Japan are the same region code.this time.see a theme here
the playstation 3 will have plenty of games because unless those developer's Up an Quit on developing for playstation systems which i don't see them doing because the playstation 3 is selling very well in Japan the playstation 3 will get quite a few games made for the playstation 3 system

As it is, the PS3 isn't far from overtaking the actual userbase # of the 360. M$ may have "sold" 15.6M units, but bear in mind that only 70% of them still work, that puts their true # at around 11M. 8.4M for PS3 means they are within a semester's striking distance.

you should also take into consideration that up till now the ps3 doesnt really have any triple A title system sellers backing it up and it still is doing tremendously well. imagine in 08 when some of the BEST franchise in gaming history are exclusive to ps3(gt5, mgs4, final fantasy XIII, hell ill even throw in kill zone 2). ps3 is gonna take off like a rocket with all these top notch titles EXCLUSIVES.
