So the Onkyo TX-SR605 does true lossless auido?
And does it have automatic speaker set up with Audessy 2EQ/HTIB?

I'm only asking because I fall in the HT-SR800 + PS3 Category. I'll need to know for certain before I make any additional purchases.

Very helpful thread.

Yes the 605 does lossless audio... I was in the same boat as you and then upgraded to the 605. The 605 isnt as powerful I have found out, but the sound output is a lot better

Yes, where you run into the problem though if it is a DTS MA 7.1 track the PS3 will only decode the core which is DTS MA 5.1.

Thanks for all of the info guys. This has been really helpful.
What would be the solution to obtain lossless audio and 7.1 support on the PS3?
Would you guys suggest getting the Onkyo TX-SR705 or another BD player?

Default If I read everything correct...

I did some reading because im getting married and my brother is taking his PS3 with him when he moves out on almost every blu ray player out right now. If I read correctly the PS3 is the only current player on the market that can handle the 2.0 spec so If thats true id highly recommend staying with that as your blu ray player, but hopefully someone can state another, because neither my wife nor myself will play any video games..

But Im going to keep my eyes on this thread because I too would be curious to know what the ideal blu ray player/receiver combo is to have true 7.1 lossless audio.

My next step is tv replacement.. Im looking for something larger then 50", 15:000:1 contrast or better, 3hdmi or more, 120mhz refresh rate, and 1920X1080... Any recommendations?

Hmm I'm not sure what your price range is. But maybe you should consider the Samsung LNT5271.
I'll be purchasing the 40 incher in this series within the next couple of months.
(Hopefully before baseball season)
Sammy has also announced their new line of series 6 and 7 sets at CES: 4 HDMI and an Ethernet port due out this March.

You can catch info on the LNT5271 here:

To echo the above poster's sentiments, the Samsung 71 series fits your description and are among the best LCDs on the market. I recently purchased the Sammy 4671 and absolutely love it. It's 1080p, 120hz, 3 HDMI, lots of connectivity, and looks great as the centerpiece of a viewing room.

I too went into the store destined to get 50" or 52", but the price difference for 6 more inches turned me off. I was apprehensive about only 46", but it turned out to be quite suitable. I picked it up for $2299 at Circuit City, 12 months no interest, 60 day 110% price match guarantee.

Good Luck.

The PS3 is currently at Bonus View (Profile 1.1) profile. It will need a firmware update to get it to 2.0.

I should have the following saved as a text file so I can copy and paste anytime somebody said he/she/we don't play video games:

If you can't afford to upgrade to another BD player within one year...
If you want a BD player that loads and navigate fast...
If you want an excellent CD, SACD and DVD player...
If you want a fast digital photo presentation...

GET A PS3!
