Just finished the short season, it was good. I liked it. Ready for some more episodes but I am sure that will be a while. Hopefully the quality stays the same if not better. Good start.

Wait, it's only four episodes? I guess that makes sense since it's based on a video game that can be beaten in 2 hours, but I thought it was supposed to be 13 episodes?

Anyway, I'll watch it later then. I hope they gave Dracula all of his demon forms from the game for the big fight.

As others have said, quality over quantity. Haven't watched yet, but sounds like it's a home run, which is rare for video game adaptations. I'm sure there will be more.

Pretty much the length of a movie. Totally down for that instead of a stretched pace endurance test.

‘Castlevania’ Animated Series Renewed For Season 2 By Netflix

Quote:
On the day of its Season 1 debut, Netflix has ordered a second season of its new original animated series Castlevania, based on the popular video games, from Wow! Unlimited Media’s Frederator Studios. In addition, the internet TV network has increased the episode order from four in its first season to eight for Season 2.

I saw that too and was sad... but then thought a 2 hour Castlevania anime is still awesome.

So I just watched the four episodes and honestly, if this wasn't titled Castlevania, I would drop it right now. THey were kind of meh. They got great actors to voice the characters, but everyone is talking in such a monotone dull manner that I'm bored with them. It also feels like they are trying to be as gratuidous as possible just for the sake of it rather than because it needs to be. I highly doubt the word "****" existed back in the 1400s and I really didn't need the poop pipeline moment.

The music is also pretty subpar so far, which is a shame because the music in the trailer kicked ass. As for the animation, it is hit or miss. When it hits, it is done extremely well. When it is amiss though, it is pretty bad looking. There are times I felt like the action scene was in slow motion, which brings me to another issue, the action just isn't all that exciting. It's like they couldn't afford enough animators to do action scenes, so they made them as generic and barebones as possible.

Story wise, I do like where they are going as they are portraying the church in a more realistic manner with how they treated people. Plus, it is pretty accurate to the Castlevania mythos. The problem is, the story is going nowhere right now and having to wait who knows how long just to see how it plays out is not doing them any favors. Again, if this wasn't titled Castlevania, I wouldn't even come back.

I enjoyed the episodes and will watch the next season. The first episode was the best of the bunch. The others had some great moments but also some pacing problems. They also could have toned down the
[Show spoiler]vomiting. That wasn't really needed.
I already read some weeks ago that there would be more episodes before the official announcement. I think they should have waited until all 12 episodes were finished and released them as one season. These four episodes felt like a prologue to the real story.

I'm not a huge Castlevania fan nor a Castlevania "expert" but I the trailer for this looked interesting, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me as I did not really enjoy watching the first episode, so I will leave it at that.

It did make me want to watch both Vampire Hunter D anime movies again for some reason though.

The first episode (animation, voice acting and writing wise) is a turd, but it gets slightly better with the second one.
The writing (especially the dialogues) is still a mess though.

I played a bunch of the games (all the metroidvanias and the one on the Mega Drive) and I could appreciate the respect for the lore of the game.
I could also appreciate that this was clearly written by Warren Ellis, the guy's touch sometimes disappears under editorial mandates but here he seems to have been at least to some degree of freedom in expressing his cynicism.

Well, this is barely a prologue largely based on the Symphony of The Night backstory, I didn't play Casltevania 3: Dracula's Curse for NES so I don't know how much of it was already in the original game.

Same here. It treated the source material with respect!
