Practically every movie from the eighties and earlier would be censored if things were like what you're saying here. Things like say, Goldfinger or Sixteen Candles would never have been released again. No one's sitting on squat to avoid offending the PC brigade. With NEW movies, sure. EDIT: Thought of another example of a movie being sat on for "offensiveness:" The Devils. Though that's not PC types being offended, it's religious people, especially Catholics. And I think it's some studio head that's doing it. Last edited by cakefactory; 03-03-2017 at 05:18 PM. |

Yes these guys were hilarious back in the day, and still to this day these movies hold up very well as raunchy, funny ass comedies. I was a fan of Cheech and Chong long before they made the movies, listening to them on records/albums. Would love to see their catalog on Blu-ray.

Hysterical movie!
I was working as an usher when we got Cheech & Chong's Next Movie the Saturday night before it's release for a sneak preview. The theater was packed! At the time, I don't remember any other movie getting massive laughs like that except for Animal House, The Jerk and the 70s Mel Brooks' films. That scene in the unemployment office is classic. |

I'm in the minority that I actually prefer the 2nd movie to the first. I saw the first two movies during their original theatrical runs both in packed theaters are everyone laughed their asses off. Although it's wildly uneven, and Cheech playing the "Red" character was supremely annoying, the.... ermmm, highs reach funnier heights and this movie introduced a number of scene stealing future big name comedians like Paul Reubens, Phil Hartman and Edie McClurg (who has the most infectuous laugh in film history).
I saw Cheech and Chong do a short half hour bit preceeding Cheap Trick and Van Halen's outdoor festival sets on consecutive nights in early 1979 and one of the bits was a embryonic version of the "Mexican Americans" tune. It would be nice if the altered and cut scenes from the tv version are included at least as extras and the original dialog and music from the original theatrical version is restored. |

The latest release of Next Movie bundled with Born in East L.A. had the original music intact.

I would think Shout would be attentive to retaining/restoring theatrical dialogue/music for this release; Their restoring "I Love The Night Life" to the Scream double-feature release on Love At First Bite was commendable and shows their attention to such detail.

It is about time something is happening on the Cheech & Chong front. I thought the first 2 were great and Things Are Tough All Over wasn't too bad even though it had less to do with dope. I would love to see Born In The East LA on Blu.The new animated movie was pretty funny.

"This is the real thing this time. C'mon please, there's two crazies in here tearing up the place."
I just compared the Shout Factory blu-ray of Cheech and Chong's Next Movie to the Universal DVD and the Shout is a definite upgrade. A lot of specks and debris are gone. Lots more detail and a clearer image. Colors look great and the audio is louder and much clearer. The pic below is the reverse artwork. 20170613_171904.jpg Last edited by javy; 06-13-2017 at 10:34 PM. |
