I'm surprised captainron_howdy that you liked The Witch but didn't like this as I really feel they have the same sensibilities. I don't think Oz Perkins directing is "an embarrassing attempt" at anything but trying to make an interesting film. Fine to hear your opinion, and my opinion is quite the opposite, so that's art for you. |

It takes an Herculean feat of patience to get through the first hour of this film, but if you do, you're gonna get rewarded big time. I think the glacial pace is a real issue and much of the film teeters on the brink of pretentiousness, but there is clear talent here from everyone involved and that sound design/score is absolutely phenomenal. Definitely worth checking out for horror fans, especially if you're a fan of creepy slow-burners like The VVitch.

I really liked the film, but would agree that it is a bit slow. I was initially intrigued when I first heard about it because I have always thought that Kiernan Shipka was exceptional in Mad Men especially in her scenes with Jon Hamm in the later seasons. I thought she was very good here as well.

Yup she is, as was Emma Roberts in a pretty grungy, unglamorous part as well, and who knew that Shipka could sing? Should have a pretty strong future. There's a little girl called Mckenna Grace who is the absolute spit of Kiernan when she was a nipper in Mad Men and she's every bit as precocious a talent as Shipka was, so someone needs to take advantage and cast them as sisters or younger/older versions of the same character in something!

Ok... let me fix my statement...
Vvitch was ok. Not scary or anything. Ending blew. Great ass though! ![]() Green Room was mostly ok. Just seemed really forced, a lot of stuff that happened. Didn't like the ending. Killed off my favourite new actress... Bababook. Hated the kid. Killed the whole movie. Mother should have swalloed... ![]() Backcoat... no idea what the f the movie was even about until after it ended. The twist was seen from a mile away as soon as that character showed up. Not scary. No tension, no nothing. Don't breathe was mostly good, somewhat predicatble, somewhat effed up. Bad ending. Decent suspense and tension. |

Here's my take on these films. The VVItch-great atmosphere & acting, still no masterpiece & the pacing is a little slow with not much in the plot. I enjoyed it tho. The Babadook-Interesting take on letting parenthood drive you mad(the kid was supposed to be annoying)Great atmosphere again. Still slow, not really that deep either, but I liked it. Green Room-Pretty masterful imo. The tension in this film was maintained from almost the start & there were a ton of great performances, music, & writing in this one. I admit, Blue Ruin was better, but Patrick Stewart in this!!! Don't Breathe- was the surprise for me, the tension is maintained throughout that entire film, the cinematography & atmosphere are pretty amazing. I totally dig Jane Levy, she was just on Twin Peaks and the script for Don't Breathe is pretty solid. Blackcoats Daughter - I dnt really know where to being other than it's just a mess, nothing else & that's a twist? When you know it's going to happen 20 mins in? Idk just my 2 cents. I liked the "Don't Knock Twice" movie much better also. |

I like to eat/snack when I watch a movie. Keeps me from biting my nails. So that leaves that out. Oddly enough, I watch a lot of subbed tv... |

There is also a very well done B&W short film on the disc. "We are the Flesh" has been one of my fav blind buys of the year. It made a very good double feature with criterion's recent release of "Canoa". |

Do Netflix Originals get a physical media release ever? Do their original shows like 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things or I Am The Pretty Thing...etc ever get a Blu-ray release? Or is physical media considered too old school for Netflix?
