That Wal Mart ad says that it's not out until the Fall which is a bit disappointing. Given that Fox seem to have a policy of quick turanrounds these days I am hoping to have this on BD by mid-August. Is August considered Fall in retailer speak ?

I think September is more likely for a release date. I would gladly welcome August though.

The early preorders are doing the same thing for me. The other thing that's keeping me out of the theater? That the theatrical releases are rapidly turning into the beta versions. "OH, Superman vs Batman made no sense in the theaters, but the added scenes in the home version make it SO much better!"

Great. So why am I wasting my time and money on the incomplete version?

Didn't check the source, but I didn't really question it given the fondness he has expressed for 3d in the past (that and prior to Alien Covenant the only film not shot in native 3d since 3d took of was the one with a miniscule budget, if he didn't care he would have just sent it all off to a conversion house and not framed the film for 3d let alone shoot them with 3d camera rigs).

Wait, has an extended cut been announced for this? Prometheus has been out for five years and the theatrical cut is the only one there is.

No but Ridley Scott has had several of his films have superior extended cuts released. Like it or not, films in cinema have a pressure to be around 2 hours long (and what do you know this one goes for 2 hours and 3 minutes), and we already known significant scenes like the first scene in the prologue uploaded which is clearly cut footage from the film, and footage I think few would disagree would benefit the film
[Show spoiler]it gives Shaw more screen time, and she isn't nothing more then a corpse in a singular shot
.

This to me suggests an extended cut is relatively likely though not confirmed. Then again several key scenes for characterisation where cut from Prometheus as well (as scene in the deleted scenes).

I hate the fact that we didnt get much in the way of engineers. I was floored by their design and story in Prometheus. I love that there were so many layers. When I see the engineers makes me want to constantly hit the gym. Im hoping we'll see more of them in Awakening.

I'll watch this again on blu ray.

there's a 4K steelbook up for pre-order! (Most likely at Best Buy)
(PREDICTION) and Target's exclusive will probably be some kind of book or a bonus disc..

Not sure if serious?
Both have already been confirmed.

I'm glad I don't like the steelbook cover, so this makes it easier for me.

I may be one of the very few on this site who does not buy multiple versions of the same movie. Although I do own all three releases of Avatar

What I meant is that was the only time I have ever bought more than one copy of the same movie. I don't go out buying every retail exclusive for each new release like I've seen others on here do. I don't have that much income for me to be capable of doing such things.

I'm sitting this one out unless there's an extended cut that improves the film. I walked out of the theater even more disappointed than I was with Prometheus. I'm more inclined to cut Prometheus some slack these days but I don't believe that'll be the case with Covenant if it'll just be the theatrical cut.
