Oh, it gets better. I called Warner before Christmas to report that they sent me the Harry Potter Box set that I had cancelled. Gave them the order number and told them I was going to be sending it back. She thanked me, but I told her it would be a few days before I sent it back due to the holidays and everything. She said fine, took my name, address, etc, and said I was not billed for it and everything was all set.

I was planing on sending it back this weekend, and guess what showed up at my door when I got home from work today? Another HP box set!! I'm afraid to call again!!

It's going to be like that scene in the first film when harry gets tons of mail.

That would be cool.

Come one, sending Hd in BD boxes and I heard from another post that they are doing things to boost HD sales so they have an excuse(a sorry one) to go with HD. I will support BD even if they flip but I would hate to see this happen
You're not the first one to say that, but I must say I find that paranoid beyond belief. While screwing up only the BDs on the surface looks bad for Blu-ray, do you really think they're going to say they're dropping support for BD because they can stop themselves from continuing to accidentally put HD DVDs in BD cases? Really?

As for doing it to hurt sales, the percentage of people that even know about this is pretty small. Most people that watch movies, even HD movies, don't cruise Internet forums reading about it. I might expect a bit of a hit in Amazon sales, but Best Buy's sales wouldn't notice anything.

As for what happened, nobody knows for sure, except perhaps Warner. If I had to guess, my suspicion is that either it was just a mistake or an HD DVD zealot working at Warner did it as a prank. Note that recently some iPods were replaced at the factory with books and a letter exhorting the recipient to stop buying consumerist junk, so this would not be unprecedented.

Ok, off topic but why is this kind of figure always cited?

Quote:
More Players Sold (3 Million)>Less Players Sold (800,000)
Don't the other almost 5 million ps3's sold worldwide not count?

In case you haven't noticed > 60% of all movie revenue is generated overseas, why does that always seem to be left out of the mix? I'm sure WB isn't leaving it out.

And looking ahead, there'll most likely be about 16-17 million PS3's worldwide by this time next yr, do we discount the majority of those too because they ain't in the usa?

These mistakes have cost Warner money. No business intentionally does things like this, impending change in format stance or not. This is more a sign that Warner has poor customer service, a poorly run packaging and distribution center, and possibly poor business process software. There is no conspiracy here.

anyone watch the movie "antz"?

in the beginning, they were classifying the baby ants into workers and soldiers... and the one baby ant wanted to be a soldier and was nudging itself towards that side, but the caretakers dragged it to the worker side. i think some of these little HD-DVD discs are nudging themselves into the cool side...

that's just me though...

I cannot imagine Warner doing something like this on purpose. To cost themselves thousands and thousands of dollars on a intentional mistake, does not make sense.

Maybe they are manufacturing evidence for why they have to drop hd-dvd. It is just getting too confusing managing three formats (DVD, hd-dvd, and Blu-ray) etc etc etc.
I thought you were going to say, "To test the resiliency of Blu-ray customers." I think most of us behaved in a reasonable manner.

From what I understand, HD DVD and Blu-ray are manufactured in two different facilities, so how would the mixup happen if it wasnt intentional sabatoge. It didnt prove anything other than WB needs better QC efforts to prvent future remakes.
You are right, this does cost them thousands of thousands of dollars to fix, not to mention the loss of credibility among the consumers buying their product.
IMO

It might have been some Blu-ray hater working at the factory. He/she/they might have overheard the rumors about Warner going Blu and they got pissed.

Or, Warner wanted to screw up on purpose to see if Blu-ray fans will still stay loyal to Blu-ray and WB.

WB goes DUD because it is beyond their ability to package and distribute BD competently?

The region coding is simply an option.

It's good to have the option,.. you don't need to use it. Many titles are region free it just gives them more control if they want it.
