Unless this blu-ray release is uncut (Original Music) and contains the extended direct TV versions I don't see the point. I already own the DVDs and the show is also available on Netflix so unless Mill Creek is giving us something new besides HD why buy it??

Another show that was hurt by music replacements was Wiseguy. It hurt it so bad that the "Dead Dog Records" arc has never been released. I would easily pay $250 for a complete series on blu-ray with all the original music intact.

Well, at least it will have subtitles. This is not on Netflix in Europe, and I don't own the DVDs, so will probably grab this when the price is similar to that of the MV set.

GREAT price but I'm hesitant to commit not knowing what Mill Creek's PQ is gonna look like or if the episodes are uncut and extended. Not to mention, if in fact none of the special features are being ported over, that's already a huge strike against it for me. I may just stick with my DVD set but if you don't own this series in any form yet, I strongly suggest you jump on this. One of the greatest shows of all-time.

IMHO, no original music. Why do I believe that? Basically, Mill Creek is not advertising anything about original music. I would be advertising the heck out of the release if the original music was available for the first time. Yes, they might not know but they did about Quantum Leap and both releases are from Universal.

Quantum Leap Sell Sheet:
Key selling points:
• FIRST TIME AVAILABLE IN HIGH-DEFINITON!
• The vast majority of the ORIGINAL MUSIC has been restored for our release!

Friday Night Lights Sell Sheet:
Key selling points:
• FIRST TIME EVER ON BLU-RAY!!

You can view the full sell sheets on their web site.

So I sent Mill Creek a message on Facebook, inquiring about the music...

Q: Hey, Mill Creek! Do you know if the Friday Night Lights Blu-ray set will have all the music used in the original broadcast versions of the episodes?

Mill Creek: Our benchmark of comparison has been the HD episodes available on Netflix. Our masters appear to be the same and those. We were never provided documentation on music cue replacement or comparisons to what was originally broadcast, so that would be my suggestion of where to look and compare. Thanks!

So now my question is, for anyone who knows, how are the Netflix versions? Do they use the same music cues as the old DVD sets, broadcast versions, or some mix of the two? And do the Netflix masters use the NBC or DirectTV versions of later episodes?

So many incredible musical moments that I hope are retained for the Mill Creek set...

Tony Lucca, "Devil Town" (S1, E22)
Iron Wine/Calexico, "Dead Man's Will" (S1, E8)
Wilco, "Muzzle of Bees" (S2, E1)
The Avett Brothers, "If It's the Beaches" (S2, E14)
Death Cab for Cutie, "Bixby Canyon Bridge" (S3, E3)
Bob Dylan, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" (S4, E6)
Steve Earle, "Goodbye" (S4, E13)
The National, "Runaway" (S5, E9)
Brandi Carlile, "Heaven" (S5, E13)
Explosions in the Sky, "Your Hand in Mine" and other tracks (many episodes)

Just off the top of my head.

DeepDiscount.com shipped my Set two days ago. I'm from Germany so it's going to take a while to arrive though.

This is going to be barebones as the DVD extras weren't ported over.

Here's a thread from another forum about changes in the season three DVDs. If you "google" around, you should find info on the netflix and dvd versions.

Universal didn't give crap about the show and it only survived because Directv reportedly picked up well more then half the cost to produce each episode. I doubt Universal is going to pay a dime more to license music they never did or wanted to for the DVDs in the first place.

How do you think they were able to release each season at around $20 on pre-order with the first season having a money back guarantee? It's funny that a MSRP of $29.98 was "super low" at the time. Here's an article about it from tvshowsondvd which is a little over 10 years old now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like the original broadcast music from FNL. And the original music from Dawson's Creek, Everwood, Roswell...

For anyone who cares, I just scanned through some Netflix episodes to see if some of my favorite music cues were retained for the Netflix/Blu-ray versions. Fared better than I thought.

INCLUDED:
Tony Lucca, "Devil Town" (S1, E22)
Iron Wine/Calexico, "Dead Man's Will" (S1, E8)
Wilco, "Muzzle of Bees" (S2, E1)
The Avett Brothers, "If It's the Beaches" (S2, E14)
Steve Earle, "Goodbye" (S4, E13)
Brandi Carlile, "Heaven" (S5, E13)
Explosions in the Sky, "Your Hand in Mine" and other tracks (many episodes)

MISSING IN ACTION:
Death Cab for Cutie, "Bixby Canyon Bridge" (S3, E3)
Bob Dylan, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" (S4, E6)
The National, "Runaway" (S5, E9)

I'm going to miss those three on rewatch. The music they replaced Death Cab with changes the entire tone of the sequence -- and not in a good way.

But I'm so happy Steve Earle's "Goodbye" is still there. It makes one of the most emotional sequences of the series hit that much harder. It's beautiful.

Devil Town was playing earlier in the season too, I don't remember the episode though. Honestly I don't even remember music from TV shows for the most part, and FNL never struck me as being a 'music' based show to pick up on the background music, so it's pretty much lost on me unless the song plays directly into the scene. Or the theme song.

I was thinking about watching Dawson's Creek again because I stopped like 2 or 3 seasons before it ended, but I was so put off by them changing the theme song... I can sort of understand changing songs in the episodes, although after some time it would be kind of nice to hear songs popular at the time where they meant to have it played, but how they think it's fine to change the theme song is crazy. I rewatched Roswell early this year, I'm glad they kept the original Dido theme song.

But yeah when I rewatched it on Netflix recently, I remember hearing Devil Town playing maybe in the first episode, or early on in season 1 and again in the finale.

Devil Town is probably one of the few that I'd have noticed if absent. Thank goodness it's in there!

Really looking forward to watching this again

Wonder if they will have that "hidden" Coach farewell speech like they did on the DVD S5. Im betting not, since special features arent either.

They had to change the theme song because they couldn't afford to license it anymore due to poor sales on the DVD. This was back in 2003 when seasons of TV shows normally started at $49.95 and up like Dawson's Creek. Seasons of Smallville were $59.95 when they first came out.
