Although the stage version is almost thru-sung... One complaint I have with Dreamgirls--switching to the more traditional "book musical" (dialogue, song, dialogue, song) model makes it lose some of the neverending momentum it had on stage--of course that was partly due to Michael Bennett's epic staging and we all know how much worse his other big musical, A Chorus Line, came out on film. I also remember in the movie theatre (and others have said this) that people seemed confused when 20 minutes into it we had the first song that wasn't sung in a concert or recording studio (ie the characters were singing their dialogue in a non-realistic way, not performing for an audience). Many seemed to think it would be more of a movie with a lot of sung performances than a full on musical--if he had kept it sung-through that wouldn't have happened.

Addressed on page one of the thread (and my last post on page two). Even a little skim before posting is often helpful. The thread is only three pages.

The Target version and the European version seem to have all the bonuses.

Wow, the Target bonus disc says that it has over 2.5 hours of features. It probably is the dropped bonus features. That's cool.

Well, I am definitely getting Target's release then.
EDIT: I went ahead and pre-ordered it. I somehow got free express shipping; I don't know why, but I should be seeing it on Wednesday the 11th. Last edited by Namuhana; 10-01-2017 at 04:10 PM. |

Which "European version" please--what country? To the extent it's the sticker on the front of the (Stateside) Target version for that release, what is the source of your info for the Euro release you refer to please?

Yeah, the bonus features disc that was not include in the standard digibook, that is probably the Target bonus disc.
There was a previous Target bonus disc for the DVD release, with a lot of random featurettes that added up to about 45 minutes or so, ideally they would include that stuff as well since it's not on any Blu release, but I doubt they will be reencoding a new bonus disc when they can just use the old one. |

Some of the Showstopper Edition's supplements are on the movie disc (see the site's cover art imagery). The movie disc will of course have to be re-authored for the overdue inclusion of lossless audio.
The site's database says the Target version is three discs: one BD and two DVDs. It also lists this release as BD + DVD + Digital Copy. We'll obviously see, but "Forget it, Jake--it's Chinatown." It's Paramount. It's sad: the theatrical release was mishandled contributing to the film not getting a Best Picture nom . . . a proper release with lossless should have happened years ago . . . 11 years into the BD format and enthusiasts are still having to read tea leaves and contact Bill Hunt to divine what's actually on a release because the studio can't be bothered to do a proper press release . . . we should be talking about a 4K UHD BD release right now . . . and I'm sorry but Eddie should have won Best Supporting not Alan Arkin. SMDH. |

It's a different cut, so it kind of has to be a different disc anyway.

Thanks, but as we're obviously trying to suss out what may or may not be on this release (and in which countries), again, what's the source of your information/speculation please? This site's database doesn't even (yet) show that the Director's Extended Edition is releasing in France. And if you're just inferring from the number of minutes of content, the US Target release seems to indicate that that might be a problematic premise (over 150 minutes of supps on the same BD as the movie?).

It is a 2 disc blu ray, called "Director's extended edition"
So I infer it is a 2 blu ray set, not a blu ray + dvd set. https://video.fnac.com/a10950922/Dre...nowles-Blu-Ray |

Even if the French set is two BDs, I think it's another leap to assume that it's going to contain all of the legacy supplements. |

We French people usually get complete editions (our basic editions often correspond to Target editions content).
And when we get true shop exclusives, when it comes to Paramount (Ghost in the shell) or even Disney (Cars 2), we get stuff that can only be found in France. |
