It is old films that really show the benefit of 4K, IMO. More so than the modern DI's upscaled.

Old films are definitely worth upgrading to 4k, especially with HDR. Recently saw Star Wars in 4K and I've just noticed Darth Vader's and C3 PO's helmets have smudge and grease marks on them. The detail is incredible.

Very old films may not show any improvement over blu-rays due to primitive films, erratic exposure, and lens limitations.
Movies made after the refinement of cinema technology - 1920's onward will show definite improvement. Unfortunately, some films in the early digital intermediate era, whether initially recorded on film or digital, suffer from technological issues and any improvement seen in UHD/4k is probably an improvement on, not an accurate reproduction of, the original. |

old films aren't even worth upgrading to blu-ray, why would they be worth upgrading to 4K? they didn't even have VCRs when those films were made, think about it.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago as I was reordering my collection by year that my newest physical movie is from 2015, Fury Road. I watch old movies far more than new ones.

Yes, it absolutely is. If given proper restoration/treatment for the 4k release, older films can be seen by many enthusiasts in better condition than they’ve been for many years.
