What is a 'perfect-bound book'? One where the pages aren't upside down?

It’s a term used in publishing for a book bound with glue, as opposed to stitching.

Oh, I know those ones. If they aren't done right the pages fall out

Shame, stitching is best.

Like this one:

Or for BD booklets it tends to differentiate a stapled booklet vs one which is glued with a spine as in this case.

I have Second Sight's very good 2011 DVD release of this. It sounds like this new Blu-ray should be a significant upgrade. I'll probably keep both editions. The DVD has the 70-minute Yutkevich cut and a few features that won't be ported over to the packed new Blu-ray, though that will definitely be worth a buy for having the full 77-minute Armenian release in high def along with all the new features and the book.

EDIT: Now I'm a little confused. Second Sight is saying that they will includes both cuts of the film (link below), but the specs listed don't include some of the features listed on this thread, and which I've seen elsewhere.

Okay, I think I've tracked down the latest specs on this. It looks like some of what was reported earlier is now outdated. Below is a review posted today and a full listing of specs. Basically, the Blu set is going to be everything that was on Second Sight's DVD release and a whole lot more, including both cuts of the film.

Extra, extra: Criterion has just announced that they will be releasing The Color of Pomegranates in April! Looks like one disc, Armenian cut only, different extras than Second Sight.

I'm sure the Second Sight release is a labor of love and it sounds hugely tempting, but I also dozed off multiple times while watching the film on their DVD. It's very pretty but I could have done with more context. Perhaps I should actually see some of the extras on that disc.

Timely, but I think I'll stick with the SS release. Difficult seeing it being topped tbh.

Just got an e-mail from HMV advising this has been delayed until 19/02. Personally I don’t mind waiting a little longer for the best possible release, but I thought people might like to know.

Got the same email, but weird the listings at both HMV and Amazon don't reflect this change of date yet. I know HMV can take a while to update (e.g. Suspiria) but Amazon are usually the first ones to list a new release date. I'm sure it'll get sorted soon.

Again, I'm perfectly happy to get it a couple of weeks late. Sounds like a corker of a release, and I've been wanting to see this one for years!

Bit the bullet and pre-ordered this, although I shamefully admit that it is sheer collectors' itch that prompted this purchase, I haven't been able to finish watching my existing DVD purchase of the film - because it is a very pretty cultural document but without a proper context, very hard to sit through. Hopefully the new extras and accompanying booklet will help me out this time

That’s a Wednesday. Unless it gets bumped again, the release date is 19 February.

Amazon have probably said 21st as their predicted delivery date, I’ve seen that before when things get delayed and they usually state the Wednesday following release.

This time its £29.99 on Amz but I am sure the price is expected to be lowered before the street date; Mine is locked at £12+ with EU VAT off.

I'm glad I ordered when it was £16.99 (£14.16 without VAT, since I'm in the US)!
