The DVDs weren't a limited release. They were available all over when they came out for a long time. I bought mine between I think Target, Best Buy and Suncoast, and I continued to see them on shelves for years afterwards.

I just started volume 4 this morning and I was surprised to see how different it was. Ivy, especially, looked completely different.

At least now I know where the character designs used in Batman and Harley Quinn came from lol.
This is why I don't watch S4, except for the Death of Batgirl episode because it is incredible, different art style or not.

Yeah I don’t mind the new art style... it just seems weird to me that they’d do that, especially if it’s still the same show lol.

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of the change in art style or really The New Batman Adventures in general. It had some good episodes here and there, though. When it was good it was really good but when it was bad it was really bad.

This was very limited. It has a booklet and bonus disc.

Oh, okay. I wasn't thinking of that, just the original DVD box sets, which have always been available.

Yeah, that specific set with the book and bonus disc was limited, the four volume sets have been perpetually available.

I ended up tracking down a copy of the complete series set back in the summer (of course, they announced a Blu-ray release a couple months after I got it lol).

I’m pretty sure it’s a legit copy, has the plastic DVD cases rather than the fold-out cardboard ones I know are used in the bootlegs. If it’s a fake, it’s a VERY good fake lol.

As for the show, I’m guessing the DVD has episodes out of story order, because the first episode on the disc was the holiday episode, which features Tim Drake as Robin out of nowhere, but the next episode was sort of his intro episode.

Strictly speaking, there is no official chronology for the episodes, though some would be obvious in terms of character intros (like your example with Tim Drake). The first season's original DVD set has "On Leather Wings" as the first episode, with Man-Bat as the villain. Different websites have tried to provide a structured narrative for the show, but the only firm point is that The New Batman Adventures takes place after the first three seasons...and of course, Batman Beyond is after that. Here's one attempt at a proper order...

I'm not certain the production order at the moment, but I know that "Holiday Knights" was the first episode that aired on the Kid's WB. I remember being disappointed that the Mr. Freeze story in the "Batman Adventures Holiday Special" wasn't one of the adaptations, yet intrigued with the appearance of the new Robin. Then the Tim Drake origin story aired the following Saturday morning.

I really hope the set also has some more special features, and maybe some new retrospective commentary from cast and crew if lucky. Warner Archive is not doing it also, its WB Home Video so hopefully that bumps up the production value a bit.

Even though its now considered as V4 of the same series, it actually isn't. Its more of a sequel series. The original ran from 1992 until 1995. The New Batman Aventures ran from 1997 from 1998, while they were doing the Superman series, so they revamped everything to have it closer to that animation style.

It’s funny, as I’ve been watching the “New Adventures” volume, I feel like on the one hand it’s more kiddy than the original run of the show (with Tim Drake as Robin now, the more simplified / different art style, etc.) yet at the same time it’s a bit darker and more violent. And they also weren’t afraid of having scantily-clad attractive females on the show (which I’m definitely ok with haha).

I think I just watched my least favorite episode of the show btw: “The Demon Within”... just.. what the hell? lol

“Legends of The Dark Knight” was kind of meh too. Although I admit, maybe I just didn’t “get it”.. the retro throwbacks were kind of cool I guess... but just didn’t really do it for me lol.

“Girls Night Out” was a lot of fun though!
