Wife and I loved it. Was really worth importing this one. After the first scene is finished this really develops into a well told story with some striking 3D scenes.

I really wish the US Blu ray had both the original English dub and the French language version(with English subtitles).

Disappointingly, there is no 3D release with the original French audio or the US English dub, only the UK English dub.
The English versions are dubs and the French version has much better acting.
I watched a bootleg Blu-ray which was in French with English subtitles (dubtitles based on the UK dub).

I never saw the French version but I saw both Ballerina and Leap!, the latter replaced some of the voice actors and changed a few lines. Ballerina is better overall, but Leap! does have one line at the end I preferred. (Let's show them why we dance, vs. Let's set Paris on fire.) But only Ballerina is in 3D.

Got it! And wanted to be sure it wasn't "leap".

Let's hope someone more respectful like GKIDS to pick the film up from The Weinstein Company and re-release it with both US and UK English dubs as well as the French version with a new English subtitle translation.
But that would take years since the movie is still pretty recent.
GKIDS can't rescue it yet like they did for Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers.

I noticed all the releases on the first page have much better art covers then we got in the US.

The animation company that made this movie is called L'Atelier, this was their first movie and so far their only movie.

Gaumont produced the movie and the only other animated films they ever made were Japanese-French co-productions with Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu (of Wolf Children fame), these films are The Boy and the Beast, and Mirai.
They're also really great movies.
And they also made films with 3D studio nWave, specifically The Queen's Corgi and Bigfoot Family.

GKIDS can't rescue it yet like they did for Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers.
The Wind Rises was finally rescued by GKIDS from Disney after three years since the GKIDS re-releases of the other films, after six years since it originally came out on Disney Blu-ray and seven years after it was originally released in Japan.
This may be our point of reference to when The Weinstein Company/Lionsgate's US distribution licence for Ballerina expires.
Realistically, Lionsgate may just extend their licence but I really, really wish that this licence expires and someone like GKIDS rescues it.

I really hope that this movie one day gets a proper US release with the original English dub, French language, and Spanish language.

I really, really wish that The Weinstein Company's (now with Lionsgate) licence for this film expires and gets rescued by GKIDS.

Not Netflix since I think they are just okay with the British English dub.
GKIDS would probably go all-out and include both American and British dubs, the original French version with proper English subtitles (not dubtitles like the Canadian Blu-ray) and probably the LatAm Spanish dub from Zima.

GKIDS couldn't get the British StudioCanal English dub of Arrietty for their Blu-ray but they did get both the original SD master and HD remaster of Perfect Blue for their Blu-ray and they got both the Classic ADV/Manga dub/sub and Official khara/Netflix/VSI dub/sub for Neon Genesis Evangelion, albeit without Fly Me to the Moon. They also got the Disney English dub of Castle in the Sky with both original Japanese synthwave and rearranged American orchestral scores.
They could not get any of the old Streamline dubs of the Ghibli films probably because Ghibli forbade them from ever being released again as they see them as outdated over Disney's dubs.
They also couldn't get the Animax Asia/Omni Productions dub of Tokyo Godfathers probably because they thought it was too terrible and they would rather do a new English dub, I think this is also why they redubbed Millennium Actress despite Manga UK (now FUNimation UK) previously making a British English dub that was apparently lacklustre.

A GKIDS re-release of this film would probably redeem its reputation in the US.
GKIDS and Lionsgate seem to be close with each other considering the former got some old Manga Entertainment (US division is now absorbed into Lionsgate and UK division is now absorbed into FUNimation) dubs like Perfect Blue and the Neon Genesis Evangelion movies probably from Lionsgate.

Gaumont/Charades made this film and they are a bit inconsistent with their releases end up with.
The Boy and the Beast ended up with FUNimation, this ended up with The Weinstein Company, Mirai and Belle are with GKIDS, I Lost My Body and Bigfoot Family are with Netflix, and The Queen's Corgi is with Freestyle Digital Media.
Wild Bunch and eOne also handle this film alongside The Little Prince. The latter was distributed by Paramount and Netflix in the US but Wild Bunch is also known for the Studio Ghibli films, which are mostly with GKIDS but The Red Turtle is with Sony Pictures Classics.

Belle is Gaumont/Charades' latest film and that is GKIDS.
I really, really wish that GKIDS would somehow look into this film and give it a definitive release and in Blu-ray 3D too, especially considering Shout! Factory is still doing 3D with their last release being Friday the 13th: Part III.

I would love for the Weinstein company to loose the movie's license and someone, anyone, that would give us a better release would get it instead.

It's good to hear gkids is such a standup firm. So I'm curious why "The Rabbi's Cat" (Le Chat du Rabbin) was released by them as 2-D in the U.S. ? Here's the original French release in glorious 3-D:

The Rabbi's Cat and Tales of the Night were released through a much smaller distributor called Cinedigm (GKIDS first worked with Cinedigm, then Universal, then Shout! Factory) and they thought selling expensive arthouse animated films in 3D won't sell as well as cheap, schlocky kids' movies.

Shout! Factory is probably going to continue making 3D discs since they did a 3D disc of Friday the 13th Part III. Though it's in doubt since they re-released the Laika films in collector's editions but they were 2D-only.

This is fast coming in at #150 on my WANT list. Looks really good on the trailer but not much 3D reviews on the thread.

Seems I did not provide my review but I remember the 3D being medium to medium strong and, Ballerina 3D was a much better watch than Leap.

Didn't know the movie was released in 3D?

I don't remember a 3D version in theaters at the time but I live only near a cinema cafe.

I don't think there was a 3D version in theaters in the US because here it was Leap! and it's Ballerina that is in 3D.
