Obviously not. But you never see a media company - or any company at all - proudly flaunting words like "acceptable" in their publicity. I found it amusing.

The picture quality is good but the out of sync audio is pretty annoying. It almost feels like i'm watching a dubbed foreign film in some parts. I'm kinda surprised it managed to get a 3.0 on the review to be honest. I guess it does sound clear but clear and out of sync isn't very useful.

Has anyone tried to redeem their code? It finds my code, but won't let me create an account. I guess Mill Creek isn't ready for the big time.

Strange enough when I went to create my account I had the same problem. I had to do a password reset...even though I'd never created an account... to actually get signed in. Makes no sense but that's how I got it to work.

I can only assume that the "submit" button or whatever it was actually does create the account but doesn't take you to the next page to sign in.

Took some quick smartphone camera comparisons between the old Gaiam Blu-ray (hands down, the absolute worst BD I’ve ever seen, likely sourced from an old videotape source) and the new Mill Creek restoration. You’ll notice the Gaiam used a 1.33:1 open matte transfer that shows more image top to bottom, whereas Mill Creek’s is in the proper widescreen ratio, with a smidge more image left to right. The quality jump from the Gaiam to the Mill Creek is nothing short of astounding (and my photos give it no justice at all), especially in terms of increasing the color range and losing 90%+ of the rampant print dirt and detritus found on Gaiam’s. I know it’s an overused term around here but the Mill Creek disc is, comparatively, a revelation!

The review says:

Quote:
Dialogue is clear but lip sync does seem a little off in places, perhaps a result of the ADR process. Examples include Mary's dialogue in the film's first scene and the cat lady at the 44:40 mark.
Anyone able to compare the new Blu with the old Blu or DVD? Is it ADR-related and part of the original production, or is it a mastering error unique to this release? If it's the latter, this release fails to earn that gushing "acceptable two-channel sound" accolade and I'd say a recall is warranted, if unlikely considering we're talking Mill Creek here. I have the old DVD, and I haven't watched it for a long time but I don't remember any sound sync issues and I'm very sensitive to that kind of annoyance. I'll check out those particular bits when I have a chance, later today perhaps.

The digital version that comes with the current blu-ray is slightly out of sync also if that question ever comes up.

For the people who like to know: the Blu-ray is region free and the DVD is region 1 coded only.

If the sound is out of sync, this Blu is worthless.

It is out of sync through the whole movie, or just in few parts?

It's mostly just the housekeeper. I think she has about 3 scenes in the film. I listened to some of the audio commentary and the director stated they didnt' record any sound live and it all had to be recorded later. The housekeeper may just be bad at it. It's jarring because she's the first person to speak in the film so you notice it right away which I think is the real problem. The movie is still watchable though. I don't know that it's really something fixable since she just sucks at it.

I don't own the Mill Creek disc yet, so I can't directly compare, but I do have the old Gaiam release. I checked around the 44:40 mark referenced in the review and I can't really call it "out of sync", but the line is very obviously ADRed. If "Do you want to give her a complex?" is off on the MC disc though it's a problem unique to that release, cause that line is pretty much spot-on on the Gaiam disc.

Watched this the other night and man...the nostalgia was strong going in and VERY weak going out.

For me, this did not hold up.

I'm with you there man. I was kinda like "wow, this kinda sucks.." after watching it but I believe this is basically the first movie of it's kind if I remember correctly. It was bound to suck going back given the genre's been improved upon so much in the years since.

I can't really figure out this Benji 3 movie collection that is being released next month. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Benji...lu-ray/225918/

It will have the 3 previous Mill Creek Benji releases (but not the Benji Christmas one) - Benji / For the Love of Benji / Benji: Off the Leash!

However it appears all 3 movies will be on one Blu-ray disc, at least according to the Mill Creek website. And it appears that all the previous special features on the stand alone releases (commentaries, etc) will also be included in this collection based on the cover art. But can it be correct that all 3 movies and all special features will now be compressed onto one BD?

Can't help wondering if the Mill Creek website listing is incorrect and this collection will be 3 BD's.

Also it appears there will be just one DVD, so I wonder if the special features that were ONLY on the DVD's of the Mill Creek standalone releases (the standalones came with both a BD and DVD), will be compressed onto one DVD in this collection?

I'm just confused. Too much much Benji confusion for me for one morning LOL.
