One of my favorite movies. Oddly enough I never upgraded my DVD so I'm definitely getting the Criterion release. Can't wait.

One of my all-time favorites! I have the Collectors Edition but the Coen's are like Kubrick or Hitchcock for me - if they show up on Criterion, I'm going in again!

This is the type of release where I wish Criterion was into UHD.

I love this film, I could justify a double dip for a UHD with whatever new extras Criterion comes up with. But on a standard blu-ray, I doubt the PQ upgrade will be enough to justify it. If I wanted to resell my original copy I probably couldn't get $2 for it. I've upgraded titles where the PQ upgrade is drastic or the original was flawed, but that isn't likely here.

A UHD release would make the most sense. The prior releases are still excellent despite being about 10 years old. The CE version already added a DTS HD Master track.

Greatest film of the XXI century, but thanks, but no thanks. Not going to double dip just for some bonus materials. I'm pretty satisfied with the current Blu-ray.

Have the existing 2-disc SE, but will happily double dip for this!

As for Criterion still not doing UHD, even though I’m fully onboard the 4K UHD bandwagon, I’d rather also not start paying $30 during a B&N/Criterion flash sale a pop for them ($60 MSRP at least).

Ohhhh this is going to be tough to decide. I own the current Bluray and dont recall being unhappy with it. Love, love, love this movie, though.

The CE has a lot of extras that probably won't make it to the CC disc, so it'll probably be best to have both.

This is a recent film that fully deserves the Criterion treatment.

I had read the Cormac McCarthy novel a year or two before seeing the movie.

The most fun that I've ever had in a theater was watching the reactions from the rest of the audience at the end. I knew what was coming, but nobody else did.

Well, maybe Criterion would finally fix MGM's double cock-up of the Saul Bass opening credits sequence.

Bought the Blu-ray when it came out in 2008. Would definitely consider getting a Criterion, but it would probably be lower on my Criterion wishlist.

Am I the only one not 100% buying that this is even true? Seems like the social media person for FilmStruck could have just been talking about the "Criterion Channel," and I'm not really sure that person would be aware of future Criterion releases anyways.

It's possible I guess. Criterion does have a lot of movies on FilmStruck that are unlikely to get a BD release. For instance, they have The Apartment (1960) streaming with Criterion artwork despite Arrow having the rights to it.

This does seem like a title Criterion would get though. They've been putting out lots of Coen Bros films, so I wouldn't rule out a BD from them.

No, you're not the only one questioning this. That Instagram feed is not 100% clear even though someone asked if it was "coming out". For all we know the streaming people may think physical media is extinct.

... and why would they be $60 MSRP?

Rationally, if you wanted to follow that DVD are $29.99, Blu-ray are $39.99, UHD could be $49.99. But there's really no reason that is set in stone either. They could just as easily be $39.99, and cut the price of blu-ray to $29.99. Or they could eliminate one of the SKU's and do a UHD/BD combo.

I'm guessing they are hesitant to do this because 3 SKU's is a stretch, and they already received blowback when they tried to combine DVD and blu-ray into 1 SKU. The real issue is that DVD exists at all, would have made things so much simpler if DVD died years ago when it should have. But alas, people apparantly still buy DVD versions and they have to keep catering to this market.

I'm just saying, it would be nice if they'd find a way to start into UHD. With some of these re-releases, it's annoying to NOT be UHD.

just watched my blu for the first time the other night... can't imagine criterion improving much on the A/V, unless it's their first UHD.

and I don't care for extras...
