I was more fascinated by the engineers than that assh0le android... but Ridley put the focus on the star, than the story... much like Jennifer Lawrence and the X-Men prequels.

I apologize to the community.
I should have added 2 more choices:

Give David Fincher Anything He Wants And Total Control To Re-cut Alien³

Give Vincent Ward Anything He Wants To Make Wooden Planet

I liked AVP, and am not really sure why it is hated. Requiem however....

Prometheus was visually stunning. The fact that the story was pants let it down. Covenant was a chance to correct those mistakes, but boy did Ridley screw up. After that ending, I'm not even going to bother with the next movie until they change the director or reboot the whole thing. Also as much as I like Michael Fassbender, David is such an annoying character and one of the main reasons Covenant was shit.

I would love to see Fincher go back like Scott did for Blade Runner. They reshoot some sequences to massage the edits for the final cut.

Fincher could go and redo the opening sequence to what he meant to for example cut out the egg shot and instead show the queen facehugger hiding in the sulaco, then attack Newt's cryopod, also show the sulaco blowing up and damaging the evv. Fincher storyboarded it,though had to cut it out. Also, he could dump the horrible composite stuff they did for the xeno and insert updated practical effects/cgi to truly bring the Runner to life especially for the end. Seeing how closely the covenant xeno looked to the Runner it made me think of what could be done, though sadly he won't do it. Though, at least we could dream.

Well, Covenant allows for that. We don't need to assume David did everything from scratch as opposed to taking advantage of what the Engineers had already done ( as implied in the novelization ). In fact, I think there may be evidence for the novelization's take remaining in the film itself, though it's probably obscured by the editing to some extent.

If only Fox would have left him alone. They hired him and then, nearly immediately, started undermining him. And it was the 2nd guy director they did it to on that picture.

Alien³ Assembly is a flawed masterpiece. It is, as is, easily, IMO, the 2nd best film in the series. Had Fincher been allowed to finish it his way I don't feel out of line saying it would at least tie Alien, if not pass it. It's as dark as Alien, IMO scarier and the Xenomorph is so badass. The only thing i think that is out of place in the Assembly is they switched out the ending with Ripley holding the Queen to her chest from the theatrical. That to me was a powerful moment: "Oh no *****, not after all we have been through, not this time. It ends here."

Sadly the theatrical left, rightfully so, a very bad taste in peoples mouths that they can't get by and see the Assembly on its own terms, and I totally get that. However the Assembly is a completely different film.

Would love to see Ridley and James Cameron do a collaboration (I know, wishful thinking), let the franchise breathe, then reboot.

I don't get the why people would want the franchise to remain dormant for any amount of time. We had 15 years between Resurrection and Prometheus and five between the latter and Covenant. More time doesn't automatically guarantee a better movie.

Do you think that could really work, no sarcasm.
Two directors, I can't see that working at all, unless you were talking about a collaborative script writing scenario.

They were going to do that, you know. Back in the early 2000s. Cameron would have written, Scott would have directed.

Fox chose to do the goddamn crossover instead. It boggles the mind.

Let Ridley finish, let Blomkamp make his film.
Then make smaller Alien films after that.

I’m in no matter what they do anyway. Lol

That's how I feel also with this film, especially the Assembly cut. . For the original trilogy I have Aliens as the third best and Alien3 as second best because of the performances by Sig Weaver, Charles Dance, and Charles S Dutton, its morose tone, the beautiful cinematography by Thompson and Cronenweth, and that epic score by Goldenthal. With how Fincher potryaed the Alien truly frightened me in a good way, though like you say, made it a bad ass monster. I even have the Alien runner figure that came out a few years back, that's how much I like that version of the xeno. Sadly, the tech was not up to the task to truly show what the Runner could do. Covenant, issues aside, showed what could be done if Fincher or Fox went back fixed those sequences.

It's time for this franchise to end before things get any worse.

Oh and no cut of Alien3 is better than Alien or Aliens. Those two are masterpieces.

This is precisely my issue. Ridley looked fan backlash in the eye and blinked abandoning his intended vision to please the fans... even apologized for his creative direction in Prometheus. What he ended up doing was backpedaling to what "worked" the easiest shoehorning familiar half hearted Alien formula into an otherwise Prometheusesque movie becoming a flipflopping mess that mixed b-movie antics with high concept science fiction.

Finally settled on let Ridley finish. He has the skill, but as others have mentioned, after Prometheus he, and Fox, got really scared of the backlash. I would like him to retcon Covenant, and pick up where Prometheus left off.

Paramount is doing that with their latest terminator film, Fox/Disney should just toss that go with what they were planning. I saw some of the concept work done when it was still Paradise Lost, and that looked great. It looked out of a giger nightmare. They should get that concept work and shoot that.
