No, he was referring to those who were telling him he didn't understand his own observations. This is (hopefully) just a subset of HD DVD fanatics.

FWIW, it takes a lot of nerve for folks sitting at home who have never even worked with film to tell a director his own opinions about audio and video are wrong. Dickwad seems like a perfectly understandable choice of words for such people.

I respect Michael Bay even more after reading these posts over the last few days.

He has always been my favorite director. I own all his movies except for Pearl Harbor and will keep buying them as long as he keeps making movies.

And where the hell is Bad Boys 3? I have been waiting for this movie for so long. I have been hearing Michael Bay, Will Smith, and Martin Lawrence are all for a third movie, so Sony better get this made in the near future.

Those poor dick wads LOL. I love Michael Bay especially when it seems like he's wasted but I will support his movies (except The Island) and I hope he does a PiP commentary for the Blu-ray version of Transformers. We all know it's coming.

I argee with you guys; he does lay it out there and does not seem to have any shame about it. Except for that back peddle he did when Trans came out but I guess he is making up for that now.

For some dick wads on these posts who think I can't make an informed choice on what format in the end, has the truer results for my own films. Well you where to shove.... My films finished in Blu-Ray are better - more true. Hd is better than DVD, but just not as good as Blu-Ray. So buying a Transformers Hd is still the best you will see this movie as of today. But when Paramount caves for Blu-Ray in the future - This will happen, then you will see Transformers one day finished in Blu-Ray and I will sure be able to tell the difference.

Bay"
I'm surprised that he directly criticized Transformers on HD-DVD, which got him into trouble the first time around.

I wonder if the "contract" that people were speculating that forced him to retract his original statements expired by the end of 2007 or something? If so we can expect even more juicy quotes from him in the coming months.

enjoy

I don't have an account on his site. Can someone from here please let Michael Bay know that he should pressure Paramount (when they go Blu) to make sure they REDO the Transformers transfer with high bitrate AVC? Otherwise, it's going to look the same as the HD DVD version. Which looks great, don't get me wrong, but could be improved.

At the BDA conference at CES tomorrow they should hand out flyers at the door..."Welcome to the BDA conference. You're in the right place because Michael Bay says HD DVDers are dickwads."

Or how about on the invite: "Don't be a dickwad, come to the BDA conference!!!"

LOL @ HD DVD.

The AVS forum thread on this was removed, but before it went poof, I think the hd dvd supporters were mad because they thought he called them all that ... well.

If I read what Michael Bay wrote, that's not what he meant, he's still annoyed that people who are not even in the movie making business question his eyes on his own movies. It's not a question of Bay doing the encode. Bay is saying that he has seen an encode with Blu-Ray parameters (basically higher peak bitrates) that look better to his eyes than the HD DVD one.

Given that it's his movie and he probably did spend thousands of hours on it frame by frame. If there were problem frames in the HD DVD encode, he has a good chance of picking them out.

For me, I'm lazy, instead of going frame by frame and eyeballing, if I have the original and two separate encodes, I'd apply some homecooked tools first to find the worst behaved frames on each encode, apply some other tools to highlght regions with problems. And then go back to those regions to point out the weak spots --- see: instant video expert with golden eyes without even having to be faimilar with the content studied.

I'm sure with as much of debacle this whole Transformers on blu ray has become he wouldn't have it any other way.
