Amazon hasn't updated my delivery date....none set but WAC is still showing a shipping date of 3/20. I'm still not sure if this is delayed or not?

This is up on Amazon again with the release date unchanged as 3-20.

This film is also a Blind Buy for me. Any of the classic monster films that the "MonsterKids" love I find to be totally in my wheelhouse. I'm excited to experience so many of them for the first time, and I'm always happy to support their releases on Blu Ray. Here's to much, much more Monster goodness in 2018!

Some great Harryhausen extras will make this purchase worthwhile by itself.

There were a few decent movies on MST3K and this was one of them. I never watched the episode all the way through. It was in the first season on Comedy Central and I don't care for those episodes.

That is strange. You can get it from CreepyClassics.com and likely here in 2 days.

DVDplanet shipped mine and it should be here by Thursday.

Is this Amazon USA taking so long ?

Looks like Amazon USA either didn't get stock or they sold out before fulfilling my order. Guess I could cancel and reorder from someone else but I have a bunch of movies in queue so I wouldn't get to it soon anyways.

Same here. But hey, I'll get Prime 2 day delivery when Amazon eventually stocks this title!

This is a post I made at HTF. I figured that it would be worth posting here too.

Quote:
I watched the disc last night and I can confirm what Phil is saying about the encoding. What's strange is that the encoding quality is affected moreso in the beginning and the end of the film while the middle of the film looks very good. When the encoding quality is bad, it looks worse than my Vudu HDX stream. When it's fine, it's easy to see that this was a brand new scan performed by WAC. Hopefully, WAC will issue a replacement.

EDIT

Here are some screencaps to illustrate the issue.

Here is a screencap of the telephone repairman from the beginning of the blu-ray. This shot is much better looking on my VuduHDX stream. Click to enlarge.

Here is a screencap of the same telephone repairman more towards the middle of the film. Notice the improved detail and less compression artifacts. Click to enlarge.

EDIT 2

Here are some screencaps from my VuduHDX stream for comparison.

Here is the same shot of the phone repairman early in the film. The detail and grain retention is much better than the blu-ray.

Here is the shot of the phone repairman later in the film. Compare the blu-ray screencap to this one and the blu-ray is the sure winner.

Hopefully, WAC figures out why the encoding quality at the beginning and end of the blu-ray is substandard and fixes the issue.

Received mine today from DeepDiscount. Only had time to take some quick chapter jumps right now, but looks pretty good to me so far. Hope I get time to watch it tonight.

Don't think I've ever seen this one. Was going to order, but after seeing those screen caps maybe I ought to wait? I live in the UK so it would take a few weeks to come as well....and a few weeks to send it back!

Depends. I believe it's still overall better than the old NTSC DVD which is 4:3 open matte aspect ratio. The Blu-Ray is widescreen.

I'm not sure what kind of replacement system WB/WAC has with international customers, so you may have a reason to worry.

One of my favorite 50's schlock films. Still one of the worst Photoshop covers ever, though.

But please keep them coming, Warner!

Might as well wait for a few user reviews before purchasing. Since you've never seen it and if you like this genre then you should be pleased.

Looks like the in house review is up. 1/2 A star?!? Not the most flattering of reviews but technically a sound purchase over the dvd.

It's actually pretty close to the original poster art. I don't have a problem with it. The half a star rating on this site is the issue. Really? The stop motion alone, should earn it a 3.

I remember watching these films on Saturday late night hosted horror movie shows on tv. I watched the blu-ray today, and quite enjoyed it myself. The video does have its moments of going from a sharp focus to being very soft, but, consider its source. I still am very happy to have added it to my collection of '50's horror and sci-fi, to me it is well worth the purchase price to have this on blu-ray. So, come on with The Giant Behemoth Warner !
