When I was looking at anniversary titles that might come out in 4k I passed on this for some reason. Not that I wouldn't buy it, just that I didn't think it'd come out.
Looks like we are getting some top notch catalog movies coming out in 4k this year. |

Not saying you're wrong but I see alot of this when someone talks bad about a certain release because it doesn't reflect their cinema experience decades ago. I actually hope they polish up the movie a little and use HDR with restrain. But I haven't seen this one in years so will need to revisit the blu-ray for more thoughts later. |

Ohhhhh, yes! I refreshed the 4K bluray subforum first time today and my heart raced just seeing the thread title
![]() Things are really shaping up now... We have quite a catalog building in the final quarter of '17 and looking like that time in 2018. Just the announced so far I'd take for a great year of UHD ...But open to more spoiling ![]() As to the treatment... I'd be for (and am glad to hear) the scan/transfer will be more like the DVD 'n' theatrical presentation. We have the BD for upscaling if we want SPR looking more color vibrant! Best of both worlds. I would also like to see Schindler's List in 4k. Probably be the only 4K I would buy without HDR. I say that because Spielberg wanted to shoot it like a documentary and to be timeless. Maybe HDR the red dress perhaps?

HDR isn't really about color. It's in the name - High Dynamic Range. Brighter whites without clipping, blacker blacks without crushing - for the entire image. Schindler's List will look even better in HDR even being just black & white for most of the runtime.

True and I realize that. I originally thought about stating seeing a modern filmed black and white movie with HDR would be special. But since it would look so much better than the black and white WWII footage we are use too, Spielberg might not want that.

I highly doubt this will get remixed in Dolby Atmos. Close Encounters used the 5.1 track from before and that too screamed Atmos. Sony normally remixes in Atmos whenever possible and so I can only imagine Spielberg put the kibosh on another remix. Paramount is more like Warner Bros where unless they're forced into it, they probably won't fork over the dough for an immersive overhaul.
