Looking forward to these, not seen either of them. But Stuart Gordons stuff is normally quality.

I have only seen this movie once and remember not liking it very much, maybe a second viewing will change my mind. Still buying it to keep my Vestron collection intact.

I saw this for my first and only time on its limited original theatrical run. Direction, design, and supporting cast: A+. The two lead actors: F. This poor film has loads of atmosphere but is severely hampered by the leads. Ezra Godden really wants to be Jeffrey Combs, but he just doesn't have the talent. If only Jeffrey had been in this film instead; it might have been an absolute horror classic on par with Gordon's first two films, the regrettable CGI notwithstanding. I will give this one another shot, however, if only to experience that atmosphere again.

I agree, it was the only aspect of the film I didn't care for all that much. They just weren't up to snuff, which is surprising with Stuart at the helm, he is a great director that came from and continues to work in theater. You would think that his choice in casting would be spot on but who knows what the factors were behind the scenes that caused the leads to be cast.

I usually don't fawn too much over acting ability except in cases where people are just distorting their faces or widening their eyes a lot. Tom Towles does that so I consider him a non-actor. If people can deliver their lines without looking at the camera or widening their eyes I can usually tolerate that. Bad CGI, that'll easily take me out of the movie.

Not likely. I believe all of Lionsgate's titles are region A locked.

How does this stack up against some of Gordon's other films? Mainly Re-animator and From Beyond? If I liked those, would this one be worth a blind buy? Thanks!

It is not as great as either of those, but I still think it is in the upper tier of his work. Dagon is a much straighter horror film than Re-Animator or From Beyond. While the lead performances aren't as good as those in Re-Animator or From Beyond, and it has some dodgy CGI, but Dagon makes up for those shortcomings with great atmosphere.

Agreed. I was actually a bit shocked by how much I enjoyed Dagon was when I watched it for the first time a few years back.

Nothing can touch Re-Animator, but I prefer it to From Beyond, which I always felt loses momentum in the second half. It’s my second favorite of Gordon‘s films.

This is pretty spot on. It's close to the upper tier of Gordon's work. From Beyond and Re-Animator are my favorites of his, with Dolls, Dagon, Castle Freak and Pit & the Pendulum in the next group of films and Space Trucks, Edmond and King of Ants below that. There are few that I haven't seen, Robot Jox, Fortress and Stuck. But I haven't seen a bad film by him, most of the time he's simply hindered by the lack of a budget for his film.

Stuck is really good. I don't think Stuart Gordon has ever made a bad movie, but Robot Jox and Fortress are probably at the bottom of the list.

It's a different tone of film, like someone said more straight, and doesn't have the 80's outrageous animatronics. But it's an excellent contemporary adaptation of a classic Lovecraft story (Shadows over Innsmouth), and I don't have any problem with the performances.

I'd put EDMOND and especially STUCK right up under RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND. Excellent films, though not really horror, more thriller.

This movie is a no-brainer and obvious Day 1 purchase! Fantastic little flick, so much atmosphere, very nicely done gore, creature and special effects. This and Beyond Re-Animator are top notch choice releases from the Vestron line. Keep'em coming... !

Yes we do, and that's just lovely, Sir! Major reason to buy this movie, and support Vestron to release more of these hidden gems. A pure cult classic and honestly so much better than the majority of dreck that is being pushed nowadays.

DAY 1

THE GORE THE MERRIER

And, the German blu was cut by about 20 or 25 seconds.

Actually, their Beyond Re-Animator release will be region free.

Both that and Dagon are about to be released by Aussie label Umbrella as well, so it's possible Vestron's Dagon may also be region free?
