This is just part of the promotion for Solo. Studios "announce" sequels and spinoffs before a big movie opens all the time. (Remember, we're still waiting on "Fant4stic 2.")

Yeah, give me my Jabba the Hutt film. And have Lars Von Trier direct it.

A three hour movie of Jabba confessing his sexual exploits to Han in Carbonite...unable to leave, must deal with the mental images of Jabba using his tongue to do some questionable things.

I'd watch it.

Sounds a hell of a lot better than TLJ.

It's like Robert Altman's Secret Honor with Jabba in the Nixon role.

Everyone jumps to the conclusion that Kennedy's comment means an Obi-Wan spinoff is off the table. In fact, the reverse seems to be true, it's been in the works for a while and will quite possibly go before the cameras next year.

What Kennedy was talking about is future movies that haven't gone into the development pipeline as of yet.

So what she said was true... from a certain point of view.

They need to do a Jawas story, that's what everyone actually wants.

I love pizza with it's cheese, crust, pepperoni, sauce, etc. Remove them all individually and I end up not caring.

Disney makes great pizza, almost as good as the originals. The prequels were like frozen pizza. Better than no pizza, but no where near as good.

Just.....no. I was really looking forward to an Obi Wan movie too. Nobody wants a Lando movie.

I'm not entirely opposed to this, but would rather see the Obi-Wan spin-off first. And what happened to the Boba Fett one?

I believe the Boba Fett one was being done by Josh Trank and was cancelled when he was fired. I don't know why everyone is acting like this is replacing an Obi-Wan movie, there has never been proof such a movie was being made, and if Glover steals Solo like the early reviews are suggesting, I think a spin off focused on him makes a lot of sense

Lando takes priority as it can ride the coat-tails of Black Panthers success.

Disney are all over the place. They should do Spin-offs for characters people actually WANT to see.

In this case:

Obi-Wan - this is going to begin filming in Spring 2019, I am so happy that they are doing this one.

Darth Maul - I've really wanted this ever since I saw that canceled MAUL video game, which was supposed to be an origin story for him.

Darth Vader - We've all seen Rogue One. We've all seen the Prequels. Vader + Order 66 = Hunting down Jedi from planet to planet, much like the intro for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Disney probably wouldn't have the balls to do this one though.

Boba Fett - I honestly wouldn't mind if this happened. It was also the top rumor going around the internet along with the Obi-Wan spin-off rumor, and Obi-Wan was confirmed, so this may also be in the future. I wouldn't mind if it was set before the events of the Sarlacc, or after. As long as we get cameos from the other Bounty Hunters from TESB. It could also reflect that canceled video game Star Wars: 1313 which was about Bounty Hunters. Don't really mind, as long as we get more Boba.

Not one of popular demand by any means, but personally I'd like:

Qui-Gon Jinn - Have this set prior to TPM, where Obi-Wan is just a young boy much as Anakin was in TPM. I'd just love to see that and more their relationship/bonding.

I don't mind a Lando spin-off. I like the idea of a 70's -era type swaggy guy working his way through the empire's shenanigans to end up as the Administrator of Cloud City.

But hey, wild idea for those who think this is a waste: Don't watch it.

Pretty sure this decision was influenced by the success of Black Panther. I just hope they find an interesting writer and director for this, because it seems like they're getting a bit over-the-top with this spin-off thing.

I'd be more interested in a Lando spinoff than an Obi-Wan spinoff TBH. At least Lando is a character we spent relatively little time with, so there's more to learn and develop about him.
