Glad this is coming out for completists, but I'm more than satisfied with my beautiful Alex Ross steelbook of the original. The sequels have their pleasures, but aren't very good (to quote Crow T. Robot, "He's the only fish with a butt" ).

Bob Furmanek confirmed that the first film will be the same disc as before.

The current scan of the original on the BD looks gorgeous now.

For the first time since 1956, you'll be seeing the third film in the correct aspect ratio!

That should have never been released on Blu-ray. The headache-inducing conversion and transfer date back to 1981.

Standard definition. Open matte. Severe mis-alignment. Yikes!

It's also worth noting that The Creature Walks Among Us will reportedly be presented in its proper aspect ratio for the first time as well for those curious.

Just dusted off my Creature Legacy Collection set and gave Creature Walks Among Us a rewatch. This is a damn good-looking and clean transfer that holds up remarkably well for a 14-year-old DVD (it looks downright pristine the majority of the time); it should look absolutely terrific with a new 4K scan for Blu. It also bears mentioning the excessive headroom in this open-matte presentation has the prospect of seeing it in its OAR all the more attractive.

Watched a bit of Revenge of the Creature as well and the shots and moments obviously intended to take advantage of 3D has me especially eager to see it in the format.

Really hoping the commentaries on both films are carried over. I can't quite forget (or forgive) Universal omitting the Buck Privates commentary on that title's Blu release. There is one other thing: Lead actress Lori Nelson contributes to the commentary on Revenge and recounts a story about some rather inappropriate behavior on the part of director Jack Arnold concerning getting them adjoining hotel rooms with a connecting door and some mild attempts at seduction (including foot massages). She was certainly aware of his intentions and says he stopped after a few days when he realized nothing was going to happen between them (she obviously could handle herself and seems fine with the recollection). Still, given the current climate, hope this doesn't lead to either editing or eliminating the commentary altogether.

SO THRILLED for this set and the new 3D Revenge!

I am madly in love with watching movies now on my PSVR, even though I own a 4k 3DTV. The fact that you are always eye-level on PSVR makes the 3D better, even if the resolution is better on my TV I have a heck of a time getting to the "sweet spot" of the best 3D image. Plus the movie-screen viewing size coupled with the immersion factor just makes the experience more fun for me. And when you consider that the inevitable next generation of PSVR 2.0 will have even better resolution, I feel so much better about the state of my 3D Blu Ray collection now than when manufacturers dropped it from the TV specs. I've been scooping up the few 3D Blus I haven't gotten yet just for the future.

When I first got my PSVR, Creature was one of the first films I rewatched on it. That fossil of the hand sticking out in the beginning is RIGHT in your face, and more effective than on my 3DTV. I am beyond excited to get Revenge and experience it in the first time (for me) in 3D and on a giant "screen"! And also happy to see Walks in HD.

I guess that he's the butt of jokes at parties, then?

All kidding aside, this set looks to be top notch. I don't think even I can pass this one up, despite not having 3-D capability! Huge thanks to Bob Furmanek and the 3-D Film Archive (Plus, Greg Mintz!) for your invaluable input in this and other recent Legacy Blu-ray Collection sets!

CHEERS!

It's very disappointing they did not let Bob Furmanek correct the 3D errors on CFTBL. Some of those are actually painful. Plus, only 3 movies in the set - they couldn't throw a few dollars at this problem? It's not like it needed a new transfer.

*sigh*

They still won’t pay the money to properly correct the audio on Frankenstein or at least do proper restorations for Werewolf of London and She-Wolf of London. For them the less money spent the better I suppose.

I'd be happy if Universal fixed the audio on Frankenstein and rectified the volume drop issue on Werewolf Of London. Annoying as the incorrect bits of 3-D must be with Creature From The Black Lagoon, it won't likely affect me directly, as I don't expect to ever have 3-D capability in our home, I'm sad to say.

The whole disc should have been re-done properly. As explained on the 3dfilmarchive, the 3D blu-ray release was not ideal, and there were indeed a number of issues:

"After the initial wow factor subsides, perspective comes back into play. Is this an optimal presentation and is this the definitive 3-D version? Regrettably, it is not."

- Misalignment - mild on a number of shots throughout and much more noticeable on a few others

- Convergence - they basically "pushed" all the action forward, so it does not even represent the 3D the way it was intended or originally seen. The 3D window was pushed forward, and as a consequence the image doesn't seem as deep as it was originally shot and shown theatrically:

"In addition, while most of the underwater scenes have now been pushed forward, the above water convergence for certain scenes will suddenly jump far back behind the screen, as though the technician re-converging the film occasionally overlooked a shot or two in the process. There are also cases where (above water) primary subject material is now placed outside of the stereo window when it was originally placed behind the window. In short, the above water re-converging and tracking on primary subject matter is also sometimes inconsistent and not without issues."

This is a huge bummer. This film was beautifully shot in 3D and there was no reason to alter the stereo effect, other than fixing alignment issues. They seemed to do it "just because". Maybe they thought it would make things come even farther out of the screen, and that would make the 3D look "better" with more pop-out. But that's at the cost of the film not looking as deep. The filmmakers knew what they were doing. Plus, they messed up as explained above, so it isn't even consistent.

- Reverse 3-D Shots - A few shots were flipped (right-left) and are obviously broken because of this. It would have been trivial to flip them back correctly.

I own the 3D blu-ray and despite all these glaring issues, it's still a spectacular 3D presentation. That speaks for how well it was shot - even with all the screw-ups it still looks fantastic on 3D blu-ray.

But this was their chance to go back and fix these issues, since all the hard work scanning was already done. And they didn't bother. That's a shame. I would have jumped at this box set if they had fixed these issues.

Especially frustrating, because they had a 4k scan done and alignment handled by 3dfilmarchive for Revenge of the Creature. So why couldn't they have had 3dfilmarchive help them correct the first film, too? What a shame to miss this opportunity to fix those issues with the first film. As it stands, Revenge will end up being a better-looking 3D presentation than the first film, thanks to 3dfilmarchive's involvement. While I'm thrilled that Revenge got this treatment, I'm sad that they didn't bother going back to the first film and at least fixing the issues it has.
