Yeah, DNR is a huge NO too. Unless it's a competent remaster, I don't see myself buying this one regardless of package and bonuses.

I think I've reached the point where I'm only going to double dip if we're talking new A/V quality (e.g. a new 4K master or original mono).

I can't keep re-buying films simply for new interviews and featurettes, especially when there's little-to-nothing wrong with the previous discs.

I suspect the differences between the MGM and Shout editions of City Slickers, Get Shorty, Man in the Iron Mask, and Platoon et al will prove to be precious little.

This. I'm much more apt to take a chance and blind-buy something that piques my interest (or something that's just plain weird, for that matter) than purchase double-dips like these.

It might explain why much, much more of my Blu-ray budget has gone to other boutique labels' offerings and will continue to do so. I find myself a lot more excited for Kino and Twilight Time sales so I can scoop up stuff on my wishlist as well as finding out what labels like Indicator are coming out with each month.

I bet Amazon wasn't suppose to list this yet since Shout hasn't exactly announced it.

I love the steel, but echoing what others have said, no remaster no buy.

Considering that “City Slickers” is now confirmed to be getting a 4K scan; I suspect that “Platoon” shall receive the same.

From the "City Slickers" thread
Quote:
Per FB:

Unfortunately, the street date for City Slickers (Collector's Edition) has been moved back one month to accommodate extra time needed to finalize our new 4K scan. Thank you for the understanding, and be sure to pre-order now at: [url="https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/city-slickers-collector-s-edition?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=post&utm_c ampaign=City Slickers cover"]https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...Slickers cover

This issue can easily be solved by announcing something before or at the same time they give info to retailers.

List Price as $26.99? Seems odd since Dragnet and City Slickers are $29.99. Yeah, I know 3 bucks, but it wouldn't make sense for this to be a few cheaper and not exactly the same. Get Shorty is around $35, same with Valley Girl.

I feel the same way and that's why I'm not picking up Trick r Treat, unless there's a new 2K / 4K scan or some film restoration involved I'm not interested. Ironically I don't have Platoon on bluray but if it does have a new transfer/scan then I'm getting it.

Well Trick R Treat is a little different because the old blu-ray had a low birate VC-1 transfer and 16 bit sound. The new disc will be AVC and 24 bit so there is at least that along with the new extras. But yeah I don't double dip anymore unless there is some kind of audio and video improvement.

If it’s a 4K master then perhaps but I have only watched my MGM once. I wore out my VHS and watched my DVD many times. It’s hard for me to get excited about SDR BD now that we have seen what classics look like on UHD.

As others have said I will double dip if it is a new master and is superior to the MGM disc.

If the list price is really $3 cheaper, it’s probably basically the same disc as before, just in a steelbook.

Should be correctly called "Platoon: the I can't believe I am gonna be buying this movie again but I will edition". Only purchasing if it's a new 4K scan, otherwise happy with the MGM disc.

I must be missing it, but how are you guys aware that this is definitely a Steelbook? I see that initial post on the first page with what's apparently the UK Steel, but I can't seem to find in the Amazon links info that confirms it. I know Scream is on a real Steel kick, same with Shout Select, but with movies they themselves have already released.
