I can't wait to watch this, but alas, I'll have to.
I want to have at least half the show out before I consider starting it.
Ideally, I want to just make a day or two out of it, and watch the whole thing. So, might be waiting a while.

I totally get your thinking.

I'm probably gonna wait until it's finished too and then just binge it in one day. I'll be thinking about it for the next eight weeks though.

Watched episode 1 last night and really enjoyed it. I know the original show has a lot of fans, but I felt this feels more real to me than that show which felt a little too "clean", but again it was made for TV in the early 1980's. This is probably going to be more faithful to the book.

Really solid first episode, excellent production values. Sanada and Asano very good (as expected).

Same here. I feel the one of the reasons this adaptation is done better is the fact that they put much more emphasis on the Japanese culture along with the characters giving them more screen time and Hiroyuki Sanada is amazing as Toranaga.

My lord, the production value is amazing, at last a series/movie that looks cinematographic and not something that came from a videogame (like the 99% of new mainstream content... damn you stagecraft). The acting is also great.

This could be one of the best series of this year.

Watched the first episode. Very well made, takes its time to tell its story and introduce you to characters. But the characters also feel quite cold to me. I hope they warm up a bit in the next episode.

Having seen the old version a half dozen times, I have to say this new Blackthorne is a lot less hammy than the old. The switch of perspective tho, I'm not a huge fan of. That was built into the book too, Anjin being in the dark on the language and intrigue, but the show does look very nice and has a great Samurai film feel to it that the older lacked (it felt much more TV special-ish)

What I don't like about Cosmo Jarvis as Blackthorne is his eyes. What I mean is he doesn't look like a guy that has burned to the ground christian villages, he doesn't have the eyes of a man that has seen death.

Well, neither did Richard Chamberlain.

What the new version hasn't shown, what the original mini-series basically forced on us, is Blackthorne's intelligence.
In the equivalent amount of story told, in the 80's version, you have Rodriguez saying that Blackthorne is too clever to be allowed to live (from the Portuguese perspective) even though personally he liked and respected the Englishman.

The only thing even close to that is told by the opposing viewpoint
[Show spoiler], that "not all" of the information in the rutter be translated for Toronaga.

I don't really think that NEEDED to be put in spoiler tags...but...who knows.

Fantastic start. It's changing certain parts of the book and Blackthorne is way more aggressive than I remember him being in the book. But everything they're giving us is just too damn good and anything samurai on the big and little screen is worth it.

Episode 3: the show went to shit as soon the action started, what the hell was that moronic boat chase and the characters talking to each other from boat to boat? lol

Also, Mariko fighting style was like meh :-/

Thank God Sanada is always amazing.
