Funimation called the Akira release a steelbook and it wound up being a metal box. I'd say it is likely that this won't be a steel.

Hmm, this @funimation BD of the Bebop movie is... well, it has all the audio tracks in TrueHD 5.1, but the video is a step down from the old Image BD. The film grain is macroblocking a bit. Most people will find it OK, but it's a little disappointing TBH. B-/C+ I'd say.

Yep, a steelbook after all. I'm a crappy hamper now! I do prefer the look of steelbooks although the metalpaks seem a little sturdier.

I was kinda hoping it would have some cool embossing like the Akira Metalpak, but I'm happy with a Steel.
I'm not happy that the same image is repeated on the inside, back, and on the disc art. But that is a minor thing.

Sounds like it might have some of the typical Funimation encoding issues but the Image edition was nothing to write home about. This edition has a healthier video bitrate and lossless surround sound (finally!) and comes in an awesome steelbook. Definitely a upgrade. I’ll be getting it.

FUNi being total idiots. Not worth the upgrade, unless you mux the FUNi audio to the Image BD. That would make for the best version.

I'll be honest - I'm not seeing a huge difference here. What should I be looking at in the Funi version that makes them "total idiots"?

I don't know why the guy that made that comparison not just use that one shot of Spike in the "Ask DNA" opening.

It's available everywhere for the same price, though. Can you do a Walmart order for pickup, and see if you get one in better condition?

Actually, because it seems to be so widely available, I'm willing to wait a bit and see if there's a price drop.
