Highly debatable, but whatevs. Polanski was for many decades regarded as one of the top filmmakers of the world, even as recently as The Ghost Writer.

Maybe if people in America/Britain actually had the chance to see them officially, that would be a nice freedom of choice of what to watch (or not watch), as everyone should ideally have?

I understand if distributors don't think they will make money; it's a business decision, just disappointing.

Everyone can condemn how they like, but the fact is that he makes movies. They exist. Therefore, they impact. They are worth talking about, and yes, many as allegories for his own psychology.

Do you reckon this one will be more widely available on Blu-ray, at least in Europe, given the subject matter? AFAIK, his previous film only got a BD in Spain.

Not only Spain. I know it was released in Hong Kong, Germany, Italy and Mexico too. You can find the different editions if you use the search bar at the top of the site.

If that's the case, and assuming one or more of them are English-friendly, then a Blu-ray of J'accuse is a safe bet. I won't worry about this anymore.

Its fine - I shouldnt have even commented. I just found the American puritanism thing a *tad* ridiculous. Its like "yeah, this just in: people dont generally care for child molesters. More news at 11pm"

I'm italian, maybe I can get it to the cinema, even if I doubt it (living in a small town when this kind of film rarely are released).
Anyway, no problem in waiting the bluray.
To be honest, he's on my shamelist. I have a whole filmography (except Chinatown) to discover before this one.

Quote:
Warner Classics will release a soundtrack album for Roman Polanski’s drama An Officer and a Spy (J’accuse). The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) who previously scored the director’s last four features, The Ghost Writer, Carnage, Venus in Fur and Based on a True Story. Also included are two classical pieces by Gabriel Fauré. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, November 8. A CD version is also being released overseas.

Trying not to listen to the entire score before seeing the film, but Desplat delivers as expected.

I'm really liking the first track. I think I'm going to have to buy the album:

If this isn't going to be released in an English-language country, I hope Gaumont will consider adding English subtitles to the French Blu-ray release. I would really like to see the film.

‘An Officer and a Spy’ Leads French Box Office Despite Controversy

Quote:
Released by Gaumont last Wednesday across 545 screens, “An Officer and a Spy” has grossed an estimated €1.5 million ($1.6 million) from 370,000 tickets sold in France as of midday Monday, taking the lead at the weekend B.O. ahead of James Mangold’s “Ford v. Ferrari,” according to Comscore France. It’s the seventh-best start for a French film since the beginning of the year, Gaumont said.

Really solid film. Polanski and the producers didn't spare on set scenes and costumes, and for an admirer of the belle epoque it can be enough. Fortunately, there's also the rest, and I was glad I could catch it at the theatre.

It's a different world we live in; films go beyond what's moving onscreen.
Music goes beyond what's spinning on the turntable.

What's your personal take on that Cremildo? ...Roman Polanski's winning Best Director for "J'accuse"
