Very much looking forward to that new interview with Nancy Allen; she's so well-spoken and generous with her recollections on CARRIE, DRESSED TO KILL and BLOW OUT...would've loved to have heard her recollections on making Spielberg's 1941 (the documentary on the making of 1941 is excellent but I've always considered it unfortunate there was no input from any of the actors involved, many of whom looked to be having a blast).

Frigging DNR nightmare!! How could Criterion release this with so much image loss due to DNR? Whoever did this should be shot!! 4K restorations have no need for digital noise reduction! Still want this but will look crappy on a 65" 4K TV.

I read another review that said it was perfect. I've got to admit that I am really getting burned out on Blu-ray reviews and boards. One reviewer says great, another says it's a mess and half the time I can't even comprehend what the hell they are talking about. Just recently I was told by many people that a 10 year old DVD of one of my favorite films was "stretched" even though it always looked perfect to me. It's all starting to give me a migraine and really makes me want to stay away from these sites.

I agree with the above review. I think the film looks and sounds great on this Criterion blu-ray. Very happy with this purchase!

Still waiting for Target to send me my copy.
I ordered it when they had their Buy 2 Get 1 Free back in February, and on paper it was a better deal than the Criterion Flash sale was going to be. But they charged me for the first two movies and IWHYH was supposed to be the "free" one, yet it's been stuck in "preparing" for over two weeks now. I won't be at all surprised if they pull a B&N and cancel the free part of the order. They screwed me over on a BF sale order they didn't want to honor so it will just be my own fault for putting faith in them again. |

I picked up this film during the 50% off sale at BN - and I am sure glad I did. I've wanted to see it for awhile but it wasn't on Blu-Ray until a few months ago and hasn't been streaming anywhere.
This movie should be seen as a widely regarded classic the way other films of the time like American Graffiti are. Watching the extras - which are great, by the way - it sounds like the film lacked the budget to be properly promoted and distributed at the time of release. It's a frantic, nostalgic blast from beginning to end with a cast that had great chemistry. Wendie Jo Sperber and Eddie Deezen were especially strong but there wasn't a weak link to be found. Along with the manic energy, there's even some heart thrown in here and there. Fans of Back to the Future will recognize more than just a couple familiar names when watching this film. Deezen wrote on Facebook awhile back that he was in Maryland when extras were being shot in LA. When he got back to LA, it was too late to participate. 1978 audiences missed out on a terrific film. With this recent Criterion Blu-Ray, 2019 audiences have no reason not to give it a shot. |

Agreed. I have absolutely no idea, why this movie doesn’t get more recognition. It’s hilarious and made with lots of heart. Wendi Jo Sperber, Nancy Allen, Theresa Saldana, Eddie Deezan, Marc McClure and Susan Newman are all excellent. Even the supporting cast is great.
Hope it becomes a classic with HD releases. Last edited by JMDiaz718; 07-07-2019 at 11:45 PM. |

I thought it looked great. Fantastic movie, as I recall it took a while to come out on DVD so I had taped it off TV when it was on, then bought the DVD when it finally came out. Big fan of The Beatles and Nancy Allen so what more can I ask for in this film? |

I just picked this up from Barnes & Noble after making a quick run there for their Criterion sale. I am a longtime Nancy Allen fan and had never seen this movie. I was pleasantly surprised—I was laughing out loud within the first five minutes. It's a zany, upbeat, and wry comedy. My instincts tell me it's probably much more enjoyable (and funny) for non-Beatles fans than it is for the opposite.

It's a wonderful "little" movie and it took forever to get it on Bd, given the easily exploitable pedigree and subject matte- with the fifty year anniversay of the Beatles in America (1964-2014) passing by with nothing.
I couldn't order the UK Bd fast enough when it came out in 2016. As with other older Universal transfers, it was a little edgy, with too hot whites and blacks verging on crush, but it was all still highly watchable and a decent enough bump up from the 2004 DVD that I was thankful to finally have it. The Criterion, though, is superior in every way. It's an absolute joy to have this in a definitive edition on this format. |

Weird, I noticed the same thing on mine. The front of mine looks fine, but the back has a slight wave to it on the top corner. I also noticed that the cover art was not properly fitted into the case before it was shrink-wrapped (i.e. the paper liner was not aligned correctly and was sticking out of the bottom of the plastic covering); the pressure of the shrink-wrap tugged on the paper a bit, so the edges of the spine on the bottom got a bit warped. I've noticed this issue in the last couple of years with Criterion discs—I've received a number of them where the artwork was haphazardly inserted into the case and not properly fitted, causing some warping/tearing on the corners of the spine. I noticed it when they moved their manufacturing plant to Mexico some years back, and it seems the quality control has gotten worse.

And... Nancy's "Sex" Scene with McCartney's Bass is hysterical... in a very twisted erotic way. |
