Nah, he sounds like a German newsreader. At least Cumberbatch is attempting to do a voice for the character.

Cumberbatch's "voice" is all wrong, though. The Grinch should sound older, like Karloff did. If Cumberbatch had just used his normal English speaking voice, it would have been fine, but the American accent he put on sounds like a mid-20s to early 30s college dropout who is living it up in his parents' basement, not some loner who feels like an outcast. Simply put, Cumberbatch sounds far too optimistic--and worse, peppy--for a Grinch.

Waalkes isn't perfect by any means, but he sounds substantially closer to what the Grinch should sound like. Of course, it's possible that other countries did even better, but the only other one I checked after hearing the German one was France, and while it sounds a bit better, they still went for a youthful sound.

God I hated this movie. There were so may things wrong with it I don't know where to begin. We gave up after the first 20 minutes. The animation looked cool... but that was about it.

I felt the same. I'll get it eventually just to see the lovely visuals and because my kid will probably like it, but it was one of the worst movies I saw in 2018 and by far the worst animated film.

My girlfriend and I both enjoyed it. One of the worst films of 2018? Not by a long shot. My only complaint is them not using the original Grinch song, or at least a more accurate version of it as opposed to the hip-hop version.

I mean, what did people expect out of this - a shot-by-shot remake? Then what would the point be? Of course it's going to be different from the original, but I think it still captured the spirit. Of course the original is better. That doesn't mean this has no merit.

I feel like they just went down the rap route because of the Despicable Me songs... which I mostly tune out but they at least are barely there, and aren't taking a classic and butchering it.

I do wish they hadn't modernized it as much and gave Cindy Lou such a big storyline that just seems like it gets in the way more than actually benefits the plot. As for Cumberbatch, I hate his American accent. It seems like most Brits and Aussies will just take on the most stereotypical Northern regional American dialect they can and it just sounds wrong... and yes it makes him seem younger when the Grinch says something about 50 or 60 years, but he sounds like a late 20s antisocial hipster

It's not the best version, and honestly probably my least favorite of the recent animated Suess films (I also hated the live action The Cat in the Hat), but it's not THAT bad and I'd be fine watching it once a year because that's all it would ever need to be seen lol

Yah... basically the best thing to do is probably turn off the volume and play a christmas record over the visuals. That might redeem the movie to some degree.

I just thought it was joyless and dull. I wasn’t looking for a remake of the original, just an entertaining animated movie.

I liked it except for the Grinch's voice. It was a terrible choice for the part. Sounded like Kevin Costner doing narration, it was so bland.

My wife, who is hard to please when it comes to movies, enjoyed this as well as my daughter!

Will be picking up the steelbook tomorrow and 4k when it drops.

I beleive the reasoning for the voice being a bit less sinister is possibly due to their decision to
[Show spoiler]make him a bit more sympathetic in general
in this version. Just a thought.

Could have used some original Christmas songs in the movie, the Who's singing the more religious Christmas songs in the movie felt out of character for them. Perhaps they go to church and worship a Jesus Christ Who or something, otherwise how the heck did they learn of Christmas to start with?

Bought the UHD, it has the digital code card but No digital code printed. It says 4k plus blu ray plus digital on the cover. Pathetic! Going to Bestbuy today.

So I purchased the US version, and to my surprise the French dubbing seems to be the one from France, not the one from Canada.
To be honest it's best for my kids (I'm from Belgium), but I suppose some folks from Canada might not be too happy...
