Incredibly movie. One of the best animated movies, and one of the best superhero movies ever. The animation is spectacular. Kind of a bummer that it won't be Dolby Vision, but this is a day one buy for sure.

Best. Spider-Man. Movie. Ever. This is a stunning achievement in animation and superhero storytelling. One of the absolute best films of 2018.

How Sony pulled this off, I have no idea but I'm glad they did. Stunner.

Wouldn't count it out. Venom got Dolby Vision on 4K after all.

Wow, I had dismissed this film after finding out it was an animated version, but judging my the comments sounds like that was a mistake!

Some positive feedback there!

This 4K UHD should have more subtitles instead of just English, French and Spanish.

I saw this in Dolby Cinema yesterday and it was truly spectacular! Believe the hype. This is one of the best Spider-Man films to date (although Raimi's Spider-Man 2 is still the high water mark for me). I don't want to give away too much beyond what is in the trailers. Just know that the main character is the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man. We get his origin story here. Villainous hijinks ensue, the multiverse is fractured, and more Spider-people appear. The plot and characters run the gamut of emotionally complex to downright silly. But at its core is an emotional coming of age story about a boy finding his identity in a world pulling him in all different directions.

The audio on this is outstanding. There's plenty of surround and overhead Atmos activity. And for the bass-heads, this is one of the rumbliest soundtracks I've experienced in awhile.

The image is one of the best things I've seen in a long time. The color is vibrant. The HDR (if you see it in Dolby or the eventual UHD release) is phenomenal. But what sets this apart from the rest of the crowd this year is the unique animated style. It might not be for everyone. Be warned that it can be hyper kinetic, similar to how I felt the first time I watched The Lego Movie. But you get used to it. While it is computer animated, it's also hand-drawn by animators. It's different from other CG animated films in that instead of animating 24fps, they went back to the old-school hand-drawn style of animating on the twos, i.e. 12 unique fps which are doubled to 24. Plus, they didn't use motion smoothing (like frame interpolation) when they did the frame doubling, so the animation can sometimes have that jerky stop-motion feel. For more details on the animation, I recommend this article at AWN and this interview at Cartoon Brew. And this new old-school technique is so unique that Sony is trying to patent it. This is the type of feature I've been waiting for ever since Disney's Paperman. If you're like me and have grown tired of the generic Pixar style that's taken over all the major Hollywood CG animated films, I highly suggest you check this out.

I can't recommend this highly enough. It checks off so many boxes that there should be something here for everyone: superheroes, family, animation lovers, videophiles, audiophiles, art snobs, sci-fi geeks, diversity, etc... Also be warned that Stan Lee's cameo is amazing because it's powerful for obvious reasons while remaining fun and true to the man himself. And there's a post-credits scene. If you can, see it in a Dolby Cinema because it maybe has a week in there besides being limited by sharing the screen with another movie this week.

Generally, I'm not a fan of modern animated movies. But this one's visual style speaks to me. Perhaps it's for the reasons you've mentioned. I saw one scene in the trailer where Miles shoots a web and you see the words "THWIP!" It's a nice translation of the comic book format.

There's a lot of that. Hard outlines. Ben-Day dots. Comic book dialog panels. Action words. Squiggles and lines that are used in static print to convey motion. All sorts of little touches here and there making it feel like a printed comic book.

I will mention one other thing that I found unique. For a sense of depth, they didn't quite blur the backgrounds, but they multiplied and offset the edges to make them look out of focus. It seemed like a way of drawing blur in an old fashioned way. I've noticed some people don't like it. It seems like you're watching a 3D movie without glasses. But it's only backgrounds or whatever isn't the focus of the shot. And it's not used all the time.

It sounds pretty awesome to me. Unfortunately, I might have to see this one on my own. My kids, 8 & 12, have zero interest in seeing this. They want to see Aquaman!

I want to see both actually. But first, I need to Once Upon A Deadpool before it leaves theaters.

This is the best Spider Man movie without a doubt. See it on the biggest screen possible.

Just gonna confirm what has been said, best spider-man movie ever. Already making plans to see it in dolby cinema and IMAX. And as someone who doesn't care for 3D at all, this movie makes me want to see it in that format.

I enjoyed it, but nah, Spider-Man 2 is still the GOAT.

it's utterly thrilling in 3D, now I want to see/hear it in Dolby Vision/Atmos.

Is it better to see this in 3D, or not?

I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was OUTSTANDING! I would recommend checking it out in 3D if possible!

Unfortunately, where I live, I can't see it in IMAX 3D, because the times are way too late. There's no way I'd go see a movie starting at 11:00 PM. I guess 3D on a regular screen will have to do.
