LCD/QLED technology sucks. The future is in microLED. It has all the benefits of Plasma and OLED, and none of the drawbacks. The reliance on using a backlight for LCD/LED will always make it inferior. I can't believe after 15 years of HDTV, manufactures are still selling us LCD TVs, and people are still buying them. People tell me, "Oh, but LCD/LED technology has gotten much better in 15 years." This is true, but the problem with LCD TVs still exists (the backlight) and will always exist. Let's move away from a technology (LCD) that is inferior and will ALWAYS be inferior.

Interesting if this is what we will see from Sony in 2019. ZG9 8K panel to replace the ZF9 next fall. Plus the rest of their lineup.

The XG90 is sounding very, very interesting if this info is correct. Love that they seem to be making contrast more of a priority with that one. |

If correct (good old hristoslav) then it shows that they can't escape the clutches of the X-Wide Angle, it's too late to drastically retool that line shirley? Apart from swapping out the panel for an 8K one, which I thought might happen sooner rather than later. Changing out the backlight for the sort of zone count that the ZD9 has would go a long way to improving it though.
PS I know it's simply a spelling error but I love that it says 'IMAX Enchanted' |

I shiver at those words that read "X-wide angle". ![]() Here's hoping for some info on that ZG9 at CES but I doubt it... |

The trailer seems a bit over the top though. |

Edit: hristoslav mentions right there that the XG70 is likely to be an 8K set. I got so excited about the higher-end models I completely overlooked that. Slow Mecha, indeed.
![]() It's interesting though, the first indictation of a lower-end 8K TV from Sony. I guess that means the entire range will likely be 8K by 2020? Edit 2: And after further research, the info in the graph actually corresponds to the AG7, not the AG9. Now everything makes much more sense; I couldn't figure out why they'd put out a new processor superior to the X1 Ultimate already, and why it'd be used for a lower-end LCD (or why it'd be called X1 Plus, for that matter...). Interesting that they're putting out a lower-end OLED, with a focus on gaming, as well! I mean, again, if true. Last edited by MechaGodzilla; 12-28-2018 at 03:51 AM. |

We're starting to see new audio product developments from LG that show off the premium abilities of their Meridian Audio acquisition. LG will announce three new soundbar models for 2019, models SL10YG, SL9YG and SL8YG.
LG's three new soundbars support both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X as well as Hi-Res audio and AI through the integrated Google Assistant. The new sleek modern design works well on a counter top or wall mounted. ![]() ![]() |

What new upgrades for TVs would most folks like to see at CES?
- HDMI 2.1 SoC hardware chipset - 8K, Super Hi-Vision resolution - Top emission OLED panels (to improve electrical efficiency and deliver higher peak luminance and increase P3 and rec.2020 % of the color gamut. - MicroLED - MiniLED - Larger screen sizes, e.g. 88'+ screen sizes - Fast input lag time (mostly for gamers) - Any other advancements or upgrades? |

I'm begining to sound like a broken record here, but since you asked.
![]() First off, only Sony for me. ![]() -82/88" 4K (8K is absolutely not a must but I have a feeling Sony's next premium high end set will turn out to be 8K) -LCD with improved BMD or Mini LED (I think it's too early for MicroLED at this point) is an absolute must, regular FALD won't do and no OLED for me -4000 nits peak brightness -100% P3 -X1Ultimate processor Basically a commercial version of this year's CES 8K prototype. ![]() |
